Metis Rebel, thank you! | ADHD Information
I knew I could count on you to shed some light on this once-baffling
behavior! (My friends have even give her baggies for Christmas!) You make
perfect sense, and I thank you. Now I understand my dd better. I always
knew she was smart! Thanks again!Hahaha
That's it! I want a Christmas stocking full of baggies--snack size, sandwich size, freezer size and those HUGE ones as big as a garbage bag
A post, for moi? You're welcome

Smart kid--Zip lock baggies?
Great idea! Think about it from an ADHD point of view. Everything in the baggie can be seen. She knows she has 6 baggies today.
Therefore, all she has to keep track of is 6 baggies and all is well in her world.

I am addicted to zip-lock baggies too. They keep objects clean without extra work. I even put my clothes in big ones after they're laundered so they keep that "bounce" smell when they come out
I put flours, beans etc. in them because I can't remember what's in a container. My cupboards and freezer are full of them I buy them by the hundreds.
My art supplies are on shelves where I can SEE them because I can't remember where to hunt for them. Which gave me an idea--if I put them in baggies, I won't have to dust and such--I can just wipe off the baggie and the shelf with a damp cloth. Less work.
Your child is a genius
She has solved the ADHD housekeeping problem and the "I can't find stuff" in one fell swoop.
Thank your kid for me

...and a little child shall lead the way...
MetisRebel39792.4115625I just want to say that while I get a lot of info and support reading other's
posts, you always add very insightful responses that are full of common
sense and personal experience. As mom to an adhd dd, I find your
responses give me a window into her brain and thought processes (or
lack thereof!). Thank you!
Now, here's a question for you (or for anyone who would like to respond!)
I don't know if you'll be able to relate to this, or what, but here goes. My
dd is almost 7. She is doing great in school and is on medication that is
working wonders. (Metadate CD 30 mgs. Love it.) However, she has
always had this thing for baggies. She puts everything she can into zip
lock baggies and carries them around. She has done this since she was a
toddler. Is this her way of organizing herself or what? She has no other
diagnoses, and seems to be fine other than her adhd, which is mostly
under control.
Have a great day! Oh, one more. When it snows, Jillian takes a baggie (or as many as I will let
her have) and fills it with snow. She likes to put it in the freezer and save it
till summer. We have a snow filled baggie in the freezer right now, as a
matter of fact. (I really thought she had some kind of wierd obsession, but
now I see how she is really trying to organize stuff.)
I had no idea the uses of those things! Metis Rebel, your lists are inspiring.
I am sure my dd will grow up to use them just like you do!Snow? I never thought of that--my dog likes snow. Maybe I should put some in there
Actually psychologically it makes sense too. Since we lack time understanding--maybe it reminds her what season it is and that Winter/Christmas WILL return?
And I gotta give you credit as a Mom for understanding her need for a bag of snow

[which many parents would pass off as silly]
Wow. What is going on with the Zip-Locks? I pack most of my sons lunch in them and they always come back home, because they are too special to throw away.
Very interesting phenomenon!
Wow! I had no idea there were so many baggies fans out there! Right now I
am looking at baggies my dd has filled: one has markers, one holds a single
game boy game, one holds some colored pens. I am sure there are more in
her room. (I had to chuckle the other day when dd told me she asked her
teacher for some baggies but she wouldn't give her any! I can just imagine.)
Maybe send a box of baggies to put in her desk
Game boy--makes perfect sense. That way, it won't get wet Markers stay moist in baggies. She is *thinking* about this!

Metis, I have to agree-YOU are GREAT at advising people through your own experiences. I admire your light-heartedness and FUN attitude.
I actually enjoyed the ziploc bag post-I may do this too!! Plus, our ds would probably LOVE it!!

Count me in as another MetisRebel fan. Her insights have been wonderful. I am training my family to be baggie fans as well. I am glad to read her insights here. She rocks. And I credit her for single handledly for helping me to overcome my stronge distaste of anything Winnie the Pooh related.
Oh my I AM blushing

There's a LOT of good people on here. I would have gone snockers without some of the wonderful people here. And there's a lot of cool parents with really good kid ideas.
You hate Winnie?
Well, actually I only like Tigger and Eeyore

I think Disney destroyed Winnie, anyway

The real Winnie Ther Pooh didn't look anything like the one in the cartoons

It's Winnie THER Pooh....and Wol....and Kanga an' Roo
Hahahahha
We should have a forum completely devoted to ADHD fans of Baggies! D'ja think we could get group discounts?
Didja know there's a Canuck Comedy band named, "Three Trolls In A Baggie"?
Zip-Lock Baggies The Official Tool for ADHD Organization...
MetisRebel39792.8743171296Thank you

Because I've dealt so long with it--I can kind of write what my brain does. I think that's what helps people understand what zaniness goes through our minds
And it you think about it--how many comedians HAVE ADHD [Robin Williams, Jim Carey, Lee Evans and how many MORE?]It's like we all see the same things-but we interpret the experiences differently.
Maybe we're genetically engineered to keep normies from taking themselves too seriously?

Zip-Lock Baggies: The Official Tool for ADHD Organization...
[/QUOTE]
Hah, whenever I am packing to go on a trip, I put everything into baggies... one tshirt, pair of undies, and pair of socks into one large freezer ziplock for each day. Pants are on their own as they can be worn more than once, barring accidents. Jammies go in another jumbo ziplock, tooth brush/paste, floss, and mouthwash together, soap, shampoo, and razor double ziplocked, medication, lip balm, bandaids, and sunscreen in another... sewing kit, spot remover, more band-aids and a mini lint roller in one...
Every year on choir tour everyone marvels at how "organized" I am... rofl, if they only knew!
