My 9 year old son who is 70 lbs. is on Datrana 20. We love it. For him it is not fast acting so my husband puts it on in the early morning where he gets ready for work. It is about 3 hours before school starts. It last all day. We also need other meds for his attention and sleep problems though.
Wish you luck!
Our DS 6 has been on Daytrana for about a year now, we love it. He started at 10mg and is now up to 20mg, which was progressive over the last year. He does take 15mg Methlyn right away in the AM to give him a quick boost until his patch kicks a couple hours later. We put the patch on at about 7:30 and find that it lasts throughout the day, even through the bedtime routine and he is able to sleep just fine. It is a very convenient way to medicate, especially if your child dislikes taking pills. A friend of mine also has an ADHD son who is on a week long patch. I'm not familiar with it but am considering asking our psych about it. It would eliminate the morning booster and with the patch covering a week long period, it would be way more convenient than applying one each day. Otherwise Daytrana has worked very well for us. Be advised that at first, the area under the patch was VERY red at the end of the day and at first we were concerned it would irritate his skin too much. Give it about a week or two, after a while, it was like his skin got used to it because now it doesn't get nearly as red and any redness that there is, is gone by morning. Good luck! my almost 5 yar old son has been on 10 mg of ritalin (fast acting). its been
