Freaky new doctor | ADHD Information

Tell him to feck off and get the MetaDate. New is not necessarily better.

And put in an official complaint. He might be on probation

DH took in DS yesterday for a checkup--the office had us come in a month earlier than usual to check on how the move from 10 mg to 20 mg of Metadate was working. There was a new doctor there--not sure if he is a sub or joining the regular practice, but he was a twit. Rude to DS and *insisted* on changing his meds from Metadate to Vyvanse. AAAGH! If it ain't broke, why fix it? DS has done quite well on Metadate thus far, and he's taken it for a year; everything has been good with the increase in dose, too. DH said he didn't like the guy, but he took the Rx and came on home.

I freaked. Vyvanse is very expensive, and again, WHY would we jump on another med if the one we're using is fine? The new doctor said Metadate was "old fashioned" and Vyvanse would be better. I'm not convinced of that.

I don't if this guy was new, clueless, taking kickbacks from the drug company producing Vyvanse, or all of the above. Anyway, I called the regular doctor this AM and immediately the office manager set up an appt. on Thurs. for us to come in and get a new Rx for Metadate. (They don't do call ins for meds). The office manager was extremely nice and very disapproving of the new doctor ("He refuses to use Metadate," she told me, "And that is not right to go changing prescriptions like that for no good reason.")

It was just very bizarre. We've used the 2 regular doctors for a year, and both have been helpful. If this new guy doesn't like working with kids, he needs to move on to another locale, imho.

We got back with the regular doc, and all is well. She didn't say much, but said maybe the other guy was thinking the new stuff might last longer. Hmph!

Anyway, thanks, all is well, and everyone (including me) goes back to school tomorrow. :)

I agree with metis. Why change meds if they are working and not causing unbearable  side effects. I am always leery to try a med that is new specially when there is an older med that works fine. I like the meds that have been around and the side effects are well known.
