8 yr old twins & Vyvanse side effects... | ADHD Information

Anything else in their lives change lately? Also don't forget the Christmas crazies...

Also, I was out with a friend today and I keep thinking the ritalin does nothing--but he swore he could practically tell the moment it wore off--he even described it in detail--so yes, the times between doses does have problems sometimes. Perhaps a longer length med or a 2/3x a day dosed medication might help?
My 8 yr old twin boys have been on Vyvanse for about 3 months now and it has been working great but lately they have been having horrible rebound hyperactivity.  They have inattentive type ADD so the hyperactive thing is new for us.  They are bouncing off the walls, defiant, and beating each other up.  Has anyones kids ever experienced this??  I hate to change meds again....this is our 3rd one and it worked really well in the beginning.  Thx for any input!!!!

My son 10, had the same problem with the Vyvanse. It worked great for a while then all sorts of side effects occured, we have now stopped it and the side effects are gone. We have moved onto Concerta, and we will see how it goes,

We have thought that the "Christmas crazies" had something to do with it but it is getting worse every single day.  They are bouncing off the walls as soon as they wake up and the vyvanse is taking about 2 hrs. to kick in.  By dinner time they are crazy again and they cannot go to sleep before 10pm (normally they are in bed and asleep by 8:30!).

We've already tried Concerta and it did not help enough.  I am trying to get them in to a new ADHD specialist but they can't see them until March!!  Do you think I should try to get their current Dr. to change the dosage?

I definatly think you shoul call the doc. when we went up in dose it got worse. But All kids  Are different and I have have heard alot good about it that's why we went with it. It has it's great points and it's not so great points for orthers. I WISH YOU WELL! and hope the meds get sorted out soon.

From what you describe this sounds like  a lot more than just being hyped up for Christmas. You know your children best. Unfortunately sometimes it takes a few meds or dose changes to get the right fit. Sometimes the wrong med or dose can cause extreme anxiety or rebound which would account for such behavior. Explain whats going on to their current doctor and tell the doc you want to try another med as this one is either not working or causing unacceptable side effects. You cannot wait until March as these beautiful little boys can't remain in such turmoil. Also, its a wise decision to go see a new ADHD specialist just to confirm the diagnosis. Good luck and please keep us informed.
