Vyvanse Vs. Concerta | ADHD Information

Vyvanse IS the same med as Adderall XR, BUT, from my understanding, the release mechanism of it is quite different which is what allows it to work over a 12hr time frame!

What time is he currently taking the Concerta? Is it possible for him to take it a bit later? Maybe adding a booster dose of something (ritalin, or something similar) at 10:30-11:00 would be beneficial? IF the Concerta is working, I'd rather see you up the dosage of that (if possible) than try a new med altogether.

As far as starting Seroquel... I'd say do only one med change/dosage increase at a time. You don't want to start more than one med at a time as well as you don't want to up the dosage of one med and add another one because then you won't know which med might be causing what side effect (if any).

I got lucky with my guys.... Focalin XR worked initially for my son for about 6months; then he got VERY aggressive. But, he had a lot of changes going on at the same time so I can't contribute the entire increase of aggression solely to the meds, but as soon as we stopped the Focalin XR, the aggression stopped. He's now currently doing well on Adderall XR (and even at a smaller dose; he was on 10mg of Focalin XR/5mg of Focalin a day.... now he's only on 5mg of Adderall XR).

Vyvanse has worked beautifully for my younger son; we totally hit the right med/dosage right off the bat. Based on my son's progress report (AND the talk with the teacher I had today at the holiday party) it's been a 100% turn-around. Still some backtalk from time to time at home, but I think at that point he's just tired and wants to chill, and we won't always let him ;)

Best of luck!! *HUGS*
Hello,

Our visit to the new doctor is tomorrow and I am going to ask to take Gregory off of all the meds he is currently on and try something different. He is on a lot now and it is just not working well enough to keep putting him through this.

I just got back from taking the kids for their flu shots and the pediatrician told me that Vyvanse is a lot like Adderol XR, so now I am confused.

Gregory has been on Adderol XR and he did not do well with it. His tantrums and aggression increased tremendously. We switched to Concerta but it only lasts until about 10:30 am and he is currently taking 54mg of that.

If Adderol XR and Concerta didnt work with him does that mean that the Vyvanse wont work either?

I am going to ask the new doc about seraquel also as she brought it up at our last visit because the risperdol is not working very well either.

I was really hopefull from all of the posts that I read on Vyvanse but now am nervouse to ask about it. Any direction would be great thanks.

Teri
VYVANSE! My son was on Adderral XR for 4 years probably and then Vyvanse for 1.25 years and then began having tics: eyes bulging, tongue movements and twitches........that is just my experience with Vyvanse.
