anyone dreading the holiday break? | ADHD Information

I'm really sad that my family can't seem to have nice experiences together and my children just need to be separated.

I know. My older two boys can just be the end of me when they get going. Sometimes they get along so great and other times they are either fighting or carrying on so much with one another (crazy play) that they are just naughty and won't listen to me. I get so frustrated when I have a nice family day planned and it doesn't work out. I do give meds (9yo) more now because of it. Better chances of success if I do. If they were only children they'd be so charming

I am currently deciding whether I can attempt all of the fun activities I planned for the next 1-1/2 weeks or if it's not even worth attempting and I'm enrolling my children in a winter holiday camp program (separate programs for each child because they need to be separated). They are inappropriate nearly every moment that they are together. 9 year old has ADHD, 5 year old doesn't but copies a lot of his behaviors b/c he thinks older bro. is a role model.
If I put them in winter break daycare, they are paying for it. I've told them that we'll be going to the bank to take out the $ if it comes to that.
I am with you MISTER, I HATE the holidays. With so much unstructured days ahead ARGH! My son wants friends here everyday(he only has 2) and does not understand others have plans as well. He is driving me nuts playing on the computer all day and I am disabled and it makes it hard to go out with him everyday. I am planning to take him to the museun or aquarium over the holidays so at least he will do something. If my mom feel ok (she has cancer) she will take him to the movies as will my aunt. So not alot but he wants busy every minute.hellppp!!!!!!
Go to the local art supply store. Get him every washable student grade goodie [pastels, paint etc] you can afford and reams of paper. You'd be amazed at what's in art stores. They usually have plenty of kid kits but always always buy MORE paper [and brushes]
If he practises this year next year he can make his own cards and gifts for everyone thus alleviating the pre-Christmas uproar.
They even have comic book kits now with special paper and markers. It is a kid's very own Santa village!
Plus, you can do it with him, even disabled.
If you have any questions on what is fun for kids just pm me.
I work so I'm gone all day and my husband has to deal with them all

On top of that - I rejoice in the lack of homework and getting out the door in the morning so I'm a happy camper.
Metis- we have every concievable art supply available besides clay, And I don't think I can handle the mess, we will see. He just wants to play with his friends, we have plenty of things to do around here including a trampoline. He just wants friends. I guess I get it he doesn't want to play with mommy anymore he is 10 and starting that phase.
My DS has a total of 12 days off!! Goes back on Jan 5th and we have no plans to go away (wish we could afford it) staying here in cold NJ!! He does not keep himself busy and enjoys the busy days of schools. UGH!! Just dreading it. wondering if anyone else is or maybe you are lucky to go away!!

I am looking forward to it!
My son does keep himself busy. I totally understand what it would be like if he didn't. Any snow near you? How about the Children's library? Movies? What about the computer?
For me, when my kids are in school is work. I have to make sure the homework is all set, lunches are made, clothes, etc.
I am also on vacation from school!
Happy Holidays!!
I'm with Bethann! I LOVE breaks and snow days! (The kids got out for break 3 days early because of snow.) School is work and most of all I despise making school lunches. Mine won't buy lunch at school.
Are there any day camps you could enroll him in during the break? I know the Boys & Girls club and I think the YMCA both offer stuff during the break. Movies and library are also a big hit in our house. My daughter LOVES to read, so she's been reading up a storm.
Could your son help wrap Christmas gifts? That kept my daughter occupied for a long time. She also loves to bake, so we have made lots of Christmas cookies.
Good luck and Happy Holidays!
