medicine for college | ADHD Information

I'm a freshman in college and I'm having trouble finding the right
medicine to fit my schedule. For about 3 years in high school I used
focalin xr. It worked pretty well. I have tried ritalin, concerta, stratera,
aderol and wellbutrion in the past but had the most success with focalin.
So, when I started college i switched to short acting focalin. The problem
is that with college i have blocks of time were i have class during the day
and blocks were i don't as opposed to high school were i was in school
for 7 hours straight. My first class is at 9 and on some days i have class
until 5 with breaks during the day. Last quarter i would always forget to
take my medicine because i was so used to taking it as breakfast. I was
used to 20 mg of focalin xr, but my doctor put me on focalin 10 mgs
because i would be taking it twice a day, but i usually didn't take it twice
because i always forgot to take it. Part of me wants to stop taking
medicine because i got a 4.0 last quarter and didn't take it much or just
take it for exams, tests and long study peroids. The other part of me feels
like the focalin xr i used to take was more effective and maybe i should
take it but it would give me less flexablity. Although i did well last
quarter, i put so much time into my studying and felt that i probably
could've been more effective with medicine. I was just wondering what
any of you who are in college have found helpful in terms of medicine or
if anyone has any suggestions on which type of medicine would be more
benificial. I'm a senior in high school. My school has a super- wacky schedule, though, so medicine is always a challenge. Right now, I take two short acting doses. One at 8 and one at 12. No exceptions. Some days I have a study hall last period, so I'll skip my second dose. I found the best is just to take it and grin. I know my grades look better when I take my meds and though I don't realize it, people can tell when I'm taking them. I don't usually take on the weekends unless I have a big project and sometimes one dose on Sundays for homework.
If I were you, I would just take it twice a day. You don't have to take it on weekends if you have no classes or just take it in the AM or PM if you don't have classes in one of them. I am not a huge fan of meds, but I suck at schedules and by sticking to a schedule, my brain is programmed to forget less when I'm on one; less forgetting to take meds. That way, a few skips won't completely throw your remembering to take meds off.
I think just a med system might help. Like what conditions apply to make you take your meds. And just follow it.

Good luck! =-)
Thanks for the advice. I've never planned on taking meds as an adult so I
may just take short acting when i may need it. Like for a test, big study
period or hard class. It is hard cause I am a lot more quiet when I'm on my
medicine and since i am always around my friends in college it kinda sucks.
Thanks again and if you ever need any advice on college stuff I'd be glad to
help.
