ok so my ds went to the dr today and we want to change him to strattera. he is on vyvanse 30mg and is emotional and aggressive. its not lasting as long as it used to and he has rebound in the evenings. he is also on tenex 1.5 mg for tics.
anyways i was wondering what ppl normally start off at? i wanted to know if this sounded right. ds is 47 lbs and 4' 2" 7 yrs old. they want me to give him 10 mg the first week and then 20 mg the 2nd week. they say he could be at 25 mg or 30 mg but they want to start him off low at first. she said i can stop the vyvanse the same day and that i dont have to taper it down. the tenex i would taper down for a week or 2 until he was off of it. does this sound about right? do i give him the doses at the same time? or do i give one in the morning and one at night? is this a med that will keep him up at night? he has had trouble sleeping with the stimulants. while using tenex he has went t bed on time though.
when we start this and take him off of the vyvanse will it be like he has absolutely no meds in him?? he has adhd combined type. he is very hyper without meds. the dr said it wont be like he doesnt have anything at all. i wonder though bc i know it takes a little while for it to start working. would u suggest waiting for a break in school to start giving him this med or even summer vacation?? so far he is ok in school. he has to have a lot of reminders but he is not as bad as he would be with no meds. last yr with no meds he had to be homeschooled. we are no where near that this yr. he will have a new teacher in feb bc his is going on maternity leave and also i am having a baby in 2 weeks. i do want to wait for him to get adjusted to these changes b4 i change his meds. i have some time to think about this med and do research on it. i also have the prescription for it to start it whenever i feel im ready.
i would love to hear anyones experience with this med. what are the normal side effects? do kids usually get tics with this one? did it work for your child? how long did it take to work for your child or u? does this med cause anxiety for some kids? mine has been so anxious with stimulants so kinda hoping this one wont do that. the dr said this med can effect the liver and we have to watch for that while he is on it. is there anything else i should be concerned about? please any info u can offer would be very appreciated!!
