Can’t Sleep | ADHD Information

it's 130 in the morning and in 6 hours, my brother will be here to pick us up to go hiking.  Mind you, his hikes are long and strenuous.  My problem?  I can't sleep because my mind is swirling in thought.  I have this problem a lot.  But it's usually at 4 in the morning after I've had some sleep.  I've tried the milk, I've tried the sudoku, I even repaired my hiking pole and I'm wide awake because I can't get my mind to shut up.  How do regular people just "stop thinking" when it's time for sleep?  I get this insomnia every once in a while.  Any suggestions? If it's the over thinking that's keeping you up I can relate.  The things I do is to refrain from caffeine of any kind after 6 PM (that includes all sodas and check other sources).  I don't watch TV or do anything in my room but sleep.

Also my pharmacist recommended trazodone and boy it works.  My pharmacist says it shuts down the extra thoughts and helps the sleep mode kick in.  It's not a depressant or other usual sleeping aid and it does help.  I have to want to sleep but it does make the difference.  Melatonin helps too in combination.
I don't consume caffeine at all.  I'm very careful about that.  Yes, it's the over thinking.  My mind just keeps going and going and going like the energizer bunny.  For me, the hyperactivity isn't in my physical body but in my mind.  And don't even get me started on dreams!

There's another member here who has either tried or is taking melatonin and i'm not quite sure of their success.

Thanks for helping me feel like i'm not the only one.  Maybe tonight I'll sleep okay.
