Anyone joined CHADD ??? | ADHD Information
They sent me alot of things but there dues for joining is a little high so when I get enough money to pay I will Join.
Anyones children ever been suspended? I'm needing help with that.
Shalis - My children have never been suspended but I was!!! And in my opinion, getting suspended (to home) is counteractive. The punishment is intended to TAKE AWAY something the child wants. Does the child really want to go to school? No. So in essence, suspension is a reward. I believe that a full day of in-school suspension - where the child has to spend the whole day in one room, bored off their butt - that is more effective because does a child want to do that? no. So, the child is not going to repeat the behavior (of course, ADD kids have a hard time with that compulsion) because they don't want the inschool.
That's my two cents.

Hi,
We joined Chadd about 2 years ago.
Very few local support groups in my area.
I like there magazine and e-mails update on topics and events related to AD/Hd.
I like supporting them for the work theyt do in Washington and local, state governments.
they have been instrumental on issues like the recent insuance parity laws that were passed.
Try supporting this hardworking non proffit advocay group.
good luck.
Hi, in my quest to find help for our family with our DD (5.5yr) with ADHD I have called just about everyone locally, researched everyone nationwide, and so on.
No support groups in my area. I cannot get over that,..... moving on. One place today told me they cannot help but to try CHADD.
I have looked at the Website. Has anoyone become a member?
What are your opinions, thoughts, etc. on this organization?? I see the benefits, but are they really beneficial?
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????
CHADD has a small chapter in my area. We went to a meeting and didn't feel it to be helpful. we didn't fit in I don't think. There are two groups in my area (Portland, OR). One is for adults and the other is more for families and children. I have yet to get to either of them as they are held during the week and only once a month each. I was thinking about starting a group on yahoo groups. but these boards are usually pretty good.
Karen,
I am so with you I got suspended too. and I was in 8th and I was sent home when the teachers didn't know my grandparents weren't there my grandpa had to drive back from Florida to be able to make the Monday meeting. My son is suspended till Tuesday. and my DH is irrate because We know that my Son did not say what he supposely said.

there are two sides to the story about what really happened. your son knows the truth. weather he has indeed told you the truth or not only he knows. I used to lie about all sorts of stuff to try and get out of trouble.
sometimes kids can surprise us by actually "commiting the crime" they're accused of. but for whatever reason, they are embarrassed or afraid to come clean. (that was often the case with me)
I'm sure your son won't be permanently scarred if you don't make a big deal out of it. but if you and your husband make a big deal out of it, he may think "hmm, if I can get attention by doing XYZ, then maybe i'll do more of it." assuring your son that you believe him and that sometimes punishments in life aren't always fair and that he just has to ride this one out, he'll be okay. sure, it makes you angry that some injustice has occured somewhere but to raise a stink about it can be worse, you know what i mean? i used to just feast on that negative attention.
There is a chapter around 60 miles from me over in Chattanooga, TN, I am going to join soon as I get some funds to do so. As for being suspended?
I was suspended in High School the old fashion way- for smoking cigs.
But, no watching TV for 3 days. No way. My mom worked my butt off at the house along with doing my class work my sister brought home to me.

Karen-
You referring to what we used to call all day D-Hall. You are basically in a room with others that got into trouble all day and your lunches was even brought to you. I spent my share of school days in JR-High in D-Hall bored out of my skull.
