We started our 120 lb 12 year old dd on Concerta last month. Doc suggested we start at 18mg and increase by 9mg each week. She felt dd would do okay on 36mg.
She's now on 45mg and I swear she seems worse!!! The lower doses did nothing at all. She was diagnosed with inattention - she has never been hyperactive at all. She just came home with a 60 on a science test. Teacher says correct mistakes to bring grade up. Well she still answered them wrong and didn't care. Let me mention she left her science notes at school. This really makes me feel especially great since I'm a chemist!
Let me also mention the 65 on the history test and, get this, a 10 on an English quiz. I really, really believe her grades and focus are much worse on Concerta. This is the first time she has taken any medication for ADD.
She was diagnosed in 2nd grade (she's in 6th now) but has been able to maintain until this year. She tolerates the meds well - only slight appetite decrease and she still sleeps well.
Anyone else experience anything similar? I will be calling her doc tomorrow to try a new drug. I really don't think increasing will help her.
Thank you for listening and I welcome all comments!
