Report card time - HIP HIP HOORAY!!! | ADHD Information
Y'all might remember my son's "light bulb" moment a couple of weeks ago when it came to reading...
well, today our 2nd grading period report cards came out and out of 31 areas that were tested in both 1st and 2nd marking periods, **13** of them showed HUGE improvements!! The other 18 were the same as last time .... .
AND GET THIS ......... NO N's! (they use an O, S, P, N, U system....) ... last time he had 4 Ns .... (which means needs improvement..) he brought them all up to Ss!!!
ALL Ss and a couple of Ps (means he's making nice progress but not strongly).... we're still working on his writing which is where he had the Ps (i'm going ot talk to the teacher about this as he's still struggling, though not as bad as he was, prior to med).
WOO FREAKING HOO!!
I got him what he has been BEGGING us for (a big bakugan set and a white bakugan....) and when he showed his report card to my inlaws, he asked his Grandad what an awesome report card deserves, and Grandad gave him !! The kid was IN HEAVEN!! (grandma told him to ask grandad, he didn't even THINK to ask for anything....)
I'm SOOOO proud of him!!!

Yet again, you are living my life! Amazing! My 9 yr old son (3rd grade) brought home a stellar report card last week. I almost fell off my chair (and was so proud when he told his tutor and hehavior dr about it). His gift of choice - that Bakugan (spelling, I know). Which he promptly lost the very next day....
it is so very rewarding to see our children succeed when given the right tools. Congratulations on your child. My dad slipped my kid some dough in confirmation of his accomplishments. They need to understand the challenges that my son faces (Grandpa is getting it)
Ain't it great when the stars align and it all works out?
Thanks for sharing.
That's fantastic! Congratulations to your son!

How funny is that?!

That means our 2 guys would probably get along marvelously! Big Congrats to your son as well and sorry he lost his bakugan! THe good thing with the big case, is it has trays to keep the bakugan in them and my son has been told they have to be put back in there if he's not playing with them so he doesn't lose them. He doesn't like it but understands that if he loses any, we will not replace them.
Congrats again to your son on his stellar report card!!
congrats to the both of you.
I am so hoping for better results from my son this week. He started on Dexedrine 1/2 tab last week and not much changes. So, today his Dr. said to give him the whole tab 5mg. and see how he does. He has been very good so far. His problem in school is, he can't stop talking. He is a chatter box and gets his coconut moved daily for this. Today, he ha been extremely quite and calm. So, maybe the 5mg. is the right does for him.
He has does great academically and even his teacher has voiced at how smart he is and is doing great. If only he could stop talking and stay on task, he would be one of her best students. So, hopefully when he goes back to school on Monday, his coconut won't fall off the tree...
Again, congrats to you both and wish my little guy luck. He's almost 6 and in kgarten.
ranbel - your son sounds EXACTLY like my son - he was an excessive talker and he was constantly having to move his whale. My son's talking and inability to focus and be attentive is what was causing him issues, academically. He's an incredibly smart kid (we all knew this) but he was struggling with reading/writing and he just couldn't help it.
Now, he's obviously doing MUCH better on the meds and I'm SO glad. The rebound issues we'd been having the last 2weeks (he's been on the meds for nearly 2months now) seem to of gone away; I'm thinking because he wasn't feeling quite 100% (he had a double ear infection) that is what was causing the issues in teh afternoon/evenings. Everything we were having issues with (whining, tantrumming, crying at the drop of a hat over SILLY stuff) has gone away.
I wish I had started mine on something last year in kindy when he was
starting to show signs of struggling but luckily, he pulled it together
once we realized part of his problem last year was his allergy meds
were causing him issues.
Best of luck to your little guy! You're on the right path (it sounds like) and remember, they will STILL have their bad days.... but they're not usually near as bad as they were, prior to starting meds. Tell him we all know that he can do it! BTW - I love the idea of the coconut falling off the tree... ;) My son's teacher is very much into whales so we use whales in the water and if they have to move them towards the top of the water, out of the water and onto the beach is our system. I like this better than the stoplight system many teachers use.

Congrats to your ds and remember, its him that deserves the credit, not the meds. The meds just unlock his potential. Great news!

I realized after I posted how my original post might of sounded ... of course my son deserves the credit for the positive report card .... :)
He's INCREDIBLY proud of himself and is hoping to do the same come the next 9weeks!

No, your post didnt come across that way. All you did was describe the benefits of medication as a tool

I just felt the need to pat your soln on the back

He deserves it!
Thank you. We had a wonderful day today with him. He has gotten a little chatty tonight, but not as bad. The meds he's on (Dexedrine), last about 6 hrs. I thinking that will get him thru the day at school. I hope...

My son was also meds for asthma (singulair). I took him off serveral months ago after reading about the behavioral side effects. We did see improvements, but he he still talked alot. Oh, and he hasn't had any problems with his asthma or allergies...
ranbel
my kiddo is on Allegra, Flonase, & Asmanex ... Allegra & Flonase for Allergies and Asmanex for the asthma. If we don't keep close tabs on these 3 meds, his allergies get all out of whack and he catches every little cold that comes along AND then he gets a horrible case of croup to go along with it. So far .... **KNOCK ON WOOD** this is the first year since he was a baby that he hasn't had a croupy cough during the winter - YAY! Our allergist said she'd never give singulair to a kid who already has ADHD behaviors, that would just add to them!
