Well after all this stress, yesterday we had a quick meeting with the teacher who said DS is doing great and even helps other kids in gifted math. She also said he is getting the citizenship award.

How nice for him!

He also won 1st place den and pack for WeblosII. I think the concerta has made a huge difference in his being happier and healthier. He also gained 5 lbs YEAH!

I still struggle with the day to day goings on around here but when I see and hear things like that I suppose it makes it all worth it.

What wonderful news!!!!!!   I'm so happy for you and him that it's working out so well.  My DS has trouble in writing as well and cannot write a 5th grade level paper if it kills him. for some reason he is gifted in other areas.

What are concept maps?

You have said it Luvmykids02. thank for the support. No this is not the magic cure but helps things so much. He is able to be better at school and at home we still stuggle. But in the end it is worth it(as of now).WinkHow great.  I want to see my dd get over the hump she has before her also.

She too is highly gifted in math. ....it's writing that she has difficulty with.  She's good with creative writing.....the writing that she has difficulty with is the kinds you must use reasoning and analytical skills like doing an essay about a book.

She's also having difficulty with science labs.

I don't know how to help her yet.  I was looking at those concept maps and it seems that they might be helpful.  I got the impression I might be able to find a software on it.

What makes some adhd people good in math.  Is that confusing for the schools and getting IEPs what are they classified as?
Congratulations to your ds The goal is to have more good days than not so good days. The medication allows the child to make a choice and on effective medication, its like they are seeing the world clearly for the first time. Medication is not a behavior pill and like any other child, when they feel stressed they will act out or vent where it is safe to do so which would be home. If we keep our expectations reasonable, we start to see a child who no longer stuggles so badly and for the struggles they still do have, the impact it has on them emotionally as well as the entire family unit is normal just like any other child. I'm so happy for your ds and you too mom. Your doing a great jobWow.  My son was diagnosed with ADHD a little over a year ago, and he is great at math, and also reading.  Writing and other subjects not so great!  Good to hear that is common with ADHD!
