Sudafed???????? | ADHD Information

I just read somewhere that a whole lot of people selfmedicate in emergencies with sudafed.  What's in it that works like ritalin?

Pseudoephedrine is a form of stimulant.  Definitely don't combine it w/ taking an ADHD stimulant b/c it can have dangerous effects of accelerating the heart too much.  If there are congestion issues, you can ask the dr. if it's OK to take the Sudafed when the stimulant has worn off at night.  I don't think that was the point of your question, but just putting it out there while the subject came up!

I never heard about self-medicating w/ Sudafed, but given the stimulant properties, I guess it makes sense.

That's so interesting- we started giving DS sudafed pe for congestion and he started the tics again- didn't knwo it was a stimulant.  now he's on clonidine for tics and focalin xr for adhd. the combo seems to be working.
