Geodon | ADHD Information

My husband had his first appt.  He was prescribed Geodon.  I can't say how upset I am after reading the side effects particularly the one that is permanent once it happens.  I'm so upset because I don't think that he was given the right med.

Asking him any questions as to why he was given this will probably lead to nowhere.  I will try when he gets home but chances are I'm going to remain so upset until I figure out a way to find out why he wasn't given vyvanse and instead this Geodon.

Does anyone have any experience with Geodon?
Geodon is an antipsychotic drug to treat bipolar and mania. Does he have problems with mood swings/aggression or bipolar tendencies? that would be my guess.... Vyvanse is a stimulant to treat ADHD. I'm confused too as to why your husband was given Geodon but there are some that find antipsychotics very helpful in helping to treat ADHD symptoms.

To ease your mind a bit? (hopefully) .... my older son has been on Risperdal (similar med to Geodon and used for the same purposes) for almost 3years now (at varying, but still very low dosages) and has never had any problems with it, other than substantial weight gain in the first year. He actually weighs less now than he did over a year ago because he got sick in December and lost quite a bit of weight and didn't gain it all back. He's NEVER had any of the other "bad" side effects that are associated with antipsychotics, and for us, it was life-changing. Sure, we go through periods of time where things are more difficult than others, but overall life is incresingly more manageable now than prior to starting the med.
Thanks asdkidsarecool,

I just spoke to him before reading your post and we decided he wont take it.  He has sleep apnea and gets chronic headaches and these are symptoms of the med too, we don't think he needs to make his natural problems worse.  The permanent tongue thrashing and tics make us scared too.

Anyway something good came of the appt.  The doc thinks dh should get a full evaluation and get neurological testing.  I agree.  It's to hard to get these things covered by insurance especially in adults so I'm kind of relieved that he is getting support to getting this done.

Also the kinds of things this med treats have me a bit confused as I don't see much of mood swings with dh...yes he gets frustrated with himself and others that lose patience with him but that's normal to anyone.  I know for a fact he's not schizophrenic.  I'm confused.

What kinds of things did you see improvement in your son with that med that you say?
