Focalin XR & Metadate CD- generic alt? | ADHD Information
My 2 sons are on metadate CD 30 mg and Focalin XR 20 mg. Our copay is higher on these meds and with generic it would be cut in half. I have been researching and can't seem to figure out what options we have. Does anyone know of a generic long acting alternative?A generic Ritalin is the only generic that I know of. Metadate and Ritalin both are methylphenidate drugs. Focalin is dexmethylphenidate, which is the same active ingredients as methylphenidate but not all of the inactive ingredients.Because of the patent for focalin xr, there is no generic form of it. I think
they recently came out with a generic short acting focalin. I thought I heard
somewhere that people didn't think it worked as well, but I can't remember
for sure so I wouldn't take my word on that. I took the generic short acting
focalin and didn't like it, but I haven't had much luck with any short acting
stimulant so I don't think it was because it is generic. I am on focalin xr 20
mg's too. You could try a new stimulant that has a generic option, but I
don't think concerta or adderall xr have generic options either. I don't know
anything about metadate. Maybe if you made an appointment with your
doctor, they could give you some alternatives.
