Peeing in Room | ADHD Information

Ok this is bizzare. My son 10, we have just found while cleaning room, has a spot where he is throwing his vitamins and peeing on his carpet wht the heck? He has been on Concerta 2 months. Is this a side effect or what? is he just nuts?Maybe my suggestion was a little extreme, but my son needs signs and
checklists to remind him visually, kind of like how they used to tie strings
around their fingers on Sesame Street. Ask him if putting a reminder sign
up might help.

Best of luck!Well after being confronted by his father Ds rolled over and said he was just being lazy and couldn't walk the extra 3 steps to the bathroom, YA RIGHT! I am afraid that his impulsivity is very high.Well, you could always offer to put a toddler potty in his room.

It might shame him into stepping it up. I don't, by the way, normally
recommend that as a technique. It could have that reaction in him, so I
wanted to put the warning out there.

But if seriously he's that close to the bathroom, then he just needs a
reminder not to give into the impulsivity. If he has the visual reminder, or
the sharp image in his mind of the offer of infantilism, then it will
probably snap him out of it.

You would have to offer it completely without bias as a way to help him
out. And if he wants one, get it for him. Better than dealing with a soggy
carpet.Believe it or not this is not uncommon for some children with ADHD and don't worry, he is not nuts It definitely isn't a side effect of medication either. He actually wasn't being impulsive because he thought about it and decided he was too lazy to go into the bathroom. Many times they don't go into the bathroom because they don't want to stop whatever else they are doing. They may be in hyper focus mode, especially if they are in the middle of a video game, Of course this is unacceptable and consequences are in order but through positive reinforcement.  My son did this for a while and I have known others that have also done this but they do stop doing that. The child cant be shamed out of something like that and all shaming does is further debilitate their self esteem. Negative reinforcement tactics never work and can do serious emotional damage. There is a 30% maturity lag in these children but once they are mature enough to realize that something like this is embarrassing and inappropriate, the behavior ceases just like many other things they may do that are not age appropriate or just plain socially unacceptable. Again, dont worry. your ds isnt nuts My son used to HYPERFOCUS like when playing video games and would pee in his pants. He didn't want to stop playing and go to the bathroom so he would have an "accident". It did go on for a while and he was around 9-10 at the time, BUT it did stop. Now, the only thing that has happened is if he goes into a very deep sleep, he has peed his underwear, sometimes through to the sheets and gets up, gets changed and tells me in the AM. I also blame anxiety over maybe school, test, etc. sometimes, but I also know my son and his deep sleeps. My son is also on concerta, which is still great for my son. And I don't blame his concerta. Thanks for the post Corrina and Bethann- I was so afraid it was the Concerta but I actually think it is the zoloft mix that is causing high impulsivity. So far so good otherwise on the Concerta. DS and DH cleaned the carpets last night and we explained how you don't go potty in your room especially since he is closest to the bathroom. I guess we will see.Well he is asking for his room to be put back together because we haven't put the dresser and drawers back yet as it was pretty soaked so we wanted to wait for it to dry.He is joking about it with my add husband. I hope he has learned something. I am very concerned about the Zoloft now.

Do you think the zoloft could be causing this behavior?

Have you called his doctor?? I don't know if I would panic. I would probably put the room back, when it was dry, and keep an eye on him .

If it happened again, I would then call the doctor. Do you see your prescribing doctor monthly, bimonthly, etc?

I do think the Zoloft could be the problem. I have called the doctor 3 times and he has not called back yet. Nice. We see him monthly in the begining of a new med then bi-monthly this time it was 6 weeks and I stilll have 2.5 to go and we need a RX mailed to me ASAP. Noone calls back.

Momma knows best!!

If things changed with him when he started zoloft, then there is your answer. Talk to the doctor!!

you know what you are doing!!

Actually he has been on the Zoloft for 3 years. it was the combo of that with the Concerta that has increased his impulsivity. I am not willing to give up the Concerta at all! If I could just get ahold of the doctor today!

May I ask, not to be too personal, why the zoloft? Is that for depression?

My son is awesome on concerta as well. he also takes guanfacine/tenex.

thanks!

OMG!! My DS just went pee on his bedroom floor. Told me is was an accident. He has done this before and he was not on any ADHD meds so this is my life..UGHHHHHHHH

DS 8   PDD/NOS, ADHD, SID, OCD, ODD

Jake has very bad Anxiety, and depression issues. that's why the Zoloft for so long.my son has anxiety as well. He takes guanfacine for that, it calms him down. he is ver HHHHHH and every little bit helps!

His doc so far has told me he doesn't believe in the tenex or clonodine for ADHD at all. He has until now he has refused to perscribe it. I am torn. He finally called back last night at 10 pm after I was asleep. He talked to my husband who had no idea what I was calling for(he's a ADHD winner as well.) We have discussed it many times. so I have to have him paged today.

We see a psychopharmacologist. he is a psychiatrist and wizard of all these meds. He put him on it from the start. He saw how he was busy wise. he upped his dose, from half to a whole pill, very low dose and magic, it did the trick.

I wonder why your doc doesn't like it, what type of doc??

His Doctor is a Psychiatrist who specializes in ADHD and kids. I will be asking again when I call today.

Please post or PM me with the info. My son has been taking it since meds began for him, shy of his 7th birthday. he will be 12 the end of June. some use it to help their kids gain weight, it again relaxes them to ease the stress, anxiety, hyperness, worries and they eat and sleep like normal.

thanks!!

I've heard of it before. Ask him what's going on.

It could be that he doesn't realize he has to go until it's too late and he
can't make it to the bathroom.

It's also possible that impulsivity is a problem.

It could be he doesn't "get the feeling" until the meds have worn off, and
he just doesn't think about going.

My son hyperfocuses and truly doesn't notice he's got to go until he feels
wet sometimes. He usually goes through a couple extra pairs of
underpants each week. As soon as it starts he realizes what's happening
he goes to the bathroom. Rarely it's more than a few drops. I help him
by reminding him to go.

Ask your son why he does it. Don't be angry, just curious. Don't badger
him, but keep gently prodding until you get the answer. Once you know
what it's about, you can help him fix it.

Best of luck!Does he hyper focus?? Is he on any meds?
He is 8,has he or anyone he knows done this before?
What do you think caused it, anxiety or what???
Mister- I certainly understand what you are going through. Is that gross or what? We have spent 4 days trying to get the smell out of the carpet. How old is your son? Mine is 10 too old for this kind of stuff. AARRGGHH! I know how you feel!
