Switching from Ritalin to Ritalin LA? | ADHD Information
Do not be afraid, your doc is right, it would be better for him and you
to find a long acting med. Keep doing research yourself.
Other choices are available too. I tried the LA for a while, and
have to say there was no effect for 2 hours after taking, then it
seemed to last for about 6 hours, but everyone is different.
Concerta or Adderall XR or Metadate CD may work for him also.
Good luck
The doctor wants to switch my son (5) from 10mg of ritalin 2 times a day to 20mg of ritalin LA once a day. Does anyone have any experience with switching from the short acting to the extended release? The doctor wants to try and eliminate the coming down and going up in between doses and to try and stretch the affects in to the PM. I don't like to switch meds with the holidays here because everything is out of the norm schedule wise and I worry about his reaction...is it the new med or just the holidays? We have an appointment to see the doctor Jan.8 so we need to try this before then and over a weekend so I guess it's now or never. Any adivise or experiences you have with this I would love to hear about.
