difficulty focusing on reading | ADHD Information

I wasn't really sure where to post this, but I was wondering if anyone else
has this problem. I have never been good reading. As a kid I never read on
grade level. When I got to middle school, I got really into reading Harry
Potter and started to read more for fun and got up to grade level. However, I
am still a really slow reader. The other problem I have is that I have a lot of
trouble focusing on what I'm reading. I'll being thinking about so many
things, that it is really hard to just focus on what I'm reading. Now that I'm in
college and having to do a lot of reading, this is kinda a problem. It also
takes me a lot longer to take tests and do other assignments because I have
to read the problems several times and it just takes me longer to process
what the question is and what it is asking. I was wondering if anyone else
has any problems like these and if so, if they have any tips that could help. Most definately! This explains myself to a T. I always struggled with reading in school. However, now that I have children with ADHD and I see their struggles with reading I now understand the "why". My children focus so much on the word that the meaning goes by the way side. I can read a whole book and not be able to tell you what it was about. Buy or make lots of index cards. Read a section...a chapter or a paragraph, whichever works for you, and then take notes on it. Pull your notes and then re-read them before taking tests, ect. You could you a notebook but then it is very much like reading a book all over again - LOL. Just an idea. Hope it helps.thanksalso when reading for pleasure, try reading out loud.  of course, you have to be alone to do this but it helps with comprehension and staying on track of where you are on the page.  my eyes have trouble staying in one spot and then i'll read the same sentence three times before i read it out loud, then i get it and can move on.
