Beginning a hobby.... | ADHD Information

My hobby is starting hobbies. I love the anticipation, researching how to begin, imagining how it will go and buying the stuff. Yep, great stuff.

My Hobby: saying 'no pun intended' to lines with no pun in them

eg 'I think he's interalized his girlfriends attitudes, no pun intended, and so...'

(three hours later, person thinking about the conversation)... "internalized? lied? analyzed? or is it attitudes?... dammit.

I do badly, but I also go caving as a hobby which gets me out of the during the weekend and some days during the week
YESSSS I am terrible at procrastinating.  Or should I say really good at it? loli find regular juggling kinda boring but I enjoy other forms like devil sticks
and diabolo. you can find more about these at a juggling store online or
something if you are at interested.

Great ideas!  The juggling is interesting seeing as if it helps with coordination it may do double duty as I seriously lack in that as well!

Getting off my butt and doing things usually is a direct result of it being literally the last minute and no longer being a choice but a must!

Does every ADHD adult procrastinate so badly?

I can't tell you how many times I have attempted to start doing something constructive not to mention the amount of money I've spent only to find myself in front of the television and my laptop again.

Does anyone actually have a hobby they've started in adult hood that they are able to work on regularly?

I requested a sewing machine in 2007 from my boyfriend because I was going to start sewing and was in full swing for months.  I bought several beginner sewing books, rolls of fabric, thread, thread holders, storage cases, piping, fringe, and numerous tools that right now I'm not sure what they are for.  I am happy to say that I have threaded the bobbin and did a practice run on some old material to check out the different stitches and since then the 0 sewing machine has been collecting dust.

I also bought a ton of yarn and a "learn to crochet" kit and figured I would learn to do that as well (while I was waiting on my machine to arrive) and thought this was a wonderful idea because I could do it in front of the television.  Practiced a few stitches, the yarn I chose wasn't quite right, on a table in the game room it went.

I have tons of books, in series, that I plan on reading and have actually gotten over a third through book one of the Mayfair Witches mostly thanks to a plane trip to Phoenix for a conference recently.  My biggest problem is the distraction from the television when I try to read and the dsitraction from the lack of noise when I turn it off.

I have several writers digest books that describe exactly how to make sure you are establishing proper scenery, readable dialogue, and character building, etc.  They are on my shelf beside the fantasy dictionaries and fictional creatures that have never seen their pages open.

I don't have any problem visiting my forums and researching random trivia (that I always remember) while watching tv, but neither of these are constructive nor do they require constant attention.

Is anyone able to get things done for fun?

Guitar... it took me a little while to get good enough to enjoy playing on a regular basis, but I've started writing my own music and its fun and very therapeutica musical instrument, juggling(seriously) is actually a lot of fun and a good
thing to do to improve hand eye coordination and give you something active
to do, reading, exercise(not just sports but things like, biking, skiing, hiking
ect..) crafts or art. I can't think of anything else right now, but any
instrument would be a good idea for sure. for me, the outcome/goal needs to be great enough for me to finish.  for example, i recently completed crocheting 13 scarves for a young mother's program.  because this program is important to me, it was important for me to finish all of them.

I have found that completing projects has become easier as I have gotten older.  I've just gotten choosier as well.  For me, it's silly to start all these great things and not finish any of them.  I'd rather start one or two projects and finish those.

Right now however, I have chores that need to be done and I'm procrastinating to the max!  How do you get off your butt and do stuff??

We should be friends! I have so many hobbies, but like you, my hobby is
starting hobbies! (and collecting things that I have no need to collect, then
start a different collection...)
