Need Help ... cutting Daytrana patches | ADHD Information

I also have seen discussion about people cutting the patches.  My child's never used Daytrana, but it sounds like others found they were just as effective after cutting it.Yes, yes I know all the literature says not to cut the Daytrana patches.

But long ago there was discussion on the board about some folks doing this.

I wanted to know if they thought they were just as effective when cut.

My son was recently put on the patch and considering his age and size (32lbs at 5yrs old) was told I would probably have to cut the patch for him.  He is also sensitive to meds, 10mg of focalin xr worked for 2 days then he was out of it every day after.  The whole patch was wayyyy too much.  Right now we are down to 1/4th a patch and it works wonderfully (execpt the side effects which I'll discuss in another post).  If you look at the size of the patch in relation to dosage a 20mg is twice as big as a 10mg.  And I've heard people say "oh if you cut them more medicine will be released" so I brought it up with my Dr. to which he replied "do you think they make all these patches individually? It's a big sheet and they cut out the sizes" So if you want to be techinical it's already been cut.  HTHYes - I just posted a question about this myself.  My son is on the 10mg patch and I think its actually too much for him so was thinking of cutting it.  wondering what people were seeing with that...We only used the patch for a short time (maybe 3-5 days) - and were told that we could cut it to lower the dosage.   It seemed to work fine but stopped after a few days because it was too much if a hassle for us and my daughter disliked it.
