Hi Bethann!
I didn't want to hijack MomtoTyler's thread but I saw your post and wanted to give you an update.
I haven't been around much lately but when I do stop by the forum I always think I should post a note to you - you have always been such an encouragement!
In February I pulled Tyler out of our local public school and enrolled him in a public cyber charter school. He does all of his schooling online. So far it has worked out well. We like it so much that my other son will be starting in a few weeks. Socially he occassionaly has a few neighborhood kids to play with but not often. THere are opportunities to make friends in cyber school but it is much harder. We'll see. My other child (doesn't have ADHD and is totally different than Tyler. He doesn't have many friends either. We moved here about 2 years ago and people just aren't accepting of newcomers. I feel very sad for my boys. I have involved them in everything I can think of but still no steady friends. They both had lots of friends where we used to live so I know it isn't my kids, it is the area we live in now. <sigh>)
I am really excited with how my son is doing off of meds but like I said in my post above, I think he will need to go back on meds at some point (maybe at a lesser dose since we have found some causes of his ADHD?) Removing the dyes, preservatives, artificials has helped A LOT with his hyperness - it is amazing! He is not hyper overall anymore. But, he still can get really wound up with external stimuli (an exciting movie or game of dodgeball or games, both video and board) so I think that type of hyperness can probably only be controlled with meds. He does recognize that he gets this way so we are trying to help him learn to control it. We'll see..... The diet hasn't helped a lot with focus/attention although now that he is in cyber school and can work at his own pace, focus doesn't seem to be the issue it once was. I do think some of his issues were related to total boredom. I have some "natural"/alternative things I want to try in order to see if they help with his focus. We have come this far I figure we should give them a try - who knows?! I never dreamed that by changing his diet we would see the results we did.
One interesting thing about having him schooled at home is I think I may be seeing other issues. I actually wonder if he has some kind of learning disability - need to post about it on the board and see if anyone here can give me some insight. He is a smart kid so I think that can "mask" other issues. I feel overwhelmed sometimes - so much to learn about our kids and what makes them "tick"!
Sounds like you had quite the start to your school year with the football bullying issue. I am so glad it has been resolved and that the bullies are now seen for who they really are!

Hey Kim,
Understand completely. I swear to you and others, that our kids are going to be just fine as adults. We are giving them a strong foundations for life. They are put through so much as children, that they will be very strong adults. I also think they will be great parents.
You hang in there and keep posting or PM me!! I want to make sure all is well with you guys.
Say, any chance of you moving back to where the kids were better off socially?
My town has a heads up on those bullies, really wimps!!
If you know what I mean.
All will turn out good in the end, because we are parenting our kids!! And we aren't in any denials!!
My very best to you and your family and keep in touch!!
Beth
