The results are in from the extensive private testing for my 9 yr old son (third grade). Besides the obvious adhd, clearly he has surface dyslexia. I am doing lots of research online but would like to hear if any other parents have experience with this and their children. I meet with the school Monday(!) for a conference to discuss and modify his IEP. My son also works with a tutor on weekends, so I will be looking for independent strategies for them to work on.
One big bummer about the report (which included lengthy feedback from his two teachers) was that even though his grades are very good, his behavior at school continues to be an issue. Not waiting his turn, impulsivity, lack of focus. The usual. He is on 10 mg focalin XR with a booster for busy afternoons. Perhaps I was naive to think that good grades = meds working = no behavior concerns. It is great to finally have some answers.
