My son age 6 has been on dexedring since the 1st of Feb. He has made a 180 degree turn with his behavior and getting smiley faces in school now. I think for the first time he will get all S's on his report card for the 3rd. nine weeks...fingers crossed.
The issue we are dealing with is defiance. He is a very strong willed child and has always been a bit stubborn. Now we are getting notes sent home that he is being disrepectful in the lunch room to the aides..and his prime time teacher says he is being way to chatty in the class.
The dexedrine seems to work great for the time it's in his system and I only give it to him in the mornings to get thur the school hrs. Now we are thinking of a med that is timed released. He can swallow the small tablets, but I don't think he can swallaw a capsule. I've read about the patches, bu was wondering if anyone had any positive feedback they can share about the time release patches.
Thanks..
We ended up with Concerta, a small capsule that he can finally swallow whole. Practice with small m&ms. The patch is supposed to be very good if your skin can take the med and adhesive. my son is allergic. for those who use it I hear very positive results. it is also a Ritalin based product. unlike dexadrine. We have only been on the Concerta 3 months and it is working better than anything else we have tried. there are many Ritalin based products out there. I say give the patch a try, if you have problems you can always just stop. I wish I had that option as it lasts the 12 hours unlike some meds that burn out quickly and need a booster. My ds is on concerta and small acting focalin. He used Daytrana (patch) for
