daytrana patch | ADHD Information
I have a 5 year old boy who recently started the patch. I really like the smoothness of it but we're having one difficulty. He tends to be highly reactive to all medications. He's on the 10mg patch. i put it on at about 8am and at 3pm like clockwork he starts getting very agitated and tearful - not at all himself. I have to remove it by 4pm or he doesn't go to sleep. I'm starting to think the dose is too high as he looks great on it from 10-1:00 then starts to look increasingly sleepy and sluggish then falls apart at 3pm. Have other people seen this too? Would you suggest cutting the patch or perhaps I should be taking it off earlier? You need to ask you doctor what you should do. Maybe it is the wrong med for your son. I know it is hard because of pill swallowing but I believe some Ritalin products come in liquid form. or some have capsules that can be opened and put in pudding or applesause for the younger ones, I use to use icecream. with Vyvanse you can put in soda they will never notice taste at all. Just some suggestions , Talk with Doc.
Thanks - we've tried Ritalin in pill form (very harsh and too tough on the stomach), Adderall but lowest dose was too much for him, focalin (no real response). The patch has really helped - ok on the stomach, much smoother and we have a fantastic 4-5 hour stint but then things seem to crash so I was thinking it was too strong. Have discussed with the doctor who thinks we can try to cut the patch or remove it after 4-5 hours and see so that's what we're playing with but I hear mixed reviews about cutting it.
