My sons does the same. At age 7 he was at 54mg of concerta. He will be 12 the end of June and he is at 90, in real need of an increase!!
I agree with the short acting dosing BUT remember age, size, weight etc. doesn't matter for the dosing of meds that do not build up in the blood systerm. What matters is the correct dose where they are successful!!
My sons liver also metabolizes very quickly. We had to up his meds to cover longer because he was done with a Concerta 27 by 12-1pm that's half the time they should last. Our Doctor is aware of the situation and we are tweaking doses now. My son is 10. Some people give a long acting in the am then give a short acting later or 2 long acting 1 at am 1 at lunch it all depends on the liver.Help! It does not matter what dosage my son gets put on, the meds never work for very long. We always end up eventually getting to the highest dosage and then even that doesn't help after awhile. The doctor said he thinks my son's liver metabolizes the meds quickly. We just got back from the dentist, & he told me the same thing. He gives him enough meds for two hours and it lasts 30 minutes. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do?Wildman,
I am not glad your son is going through this too, but it does help to know that we aren't the only ones. I just KNEW my son wasn't the only child in the world with this problem.
Thank you. Ya its nice to know Im not the only one but I do feel im the only one with a child who has lead paint poisoning
We lived in a old farm house in harford county. The landlord was also my husbands boss. They told us nothing about the house but it was a nice home. We say the paint chipping but we had no idea is was poison! It was a big shock when the news came back what was going on!
I am not trying to pry, but how did he get lead paint poisoning?
I'm sure my son's ADHD is inheirited (from me!). But, I had a very complicated pregnancy (twins, pre-term labor, bedrest for 3 months, meds to stop the labor and shots to help their lungs along...), and am thinking some of it may have to do with that.
I have been doing some digging on the net about what I think is called "rapid metabolizers."
It doesn't sound like it is extremly common, but I might be wrong.
Finding out about this is really kind of a sanity saver. I constantly had my hopes up with each & every new med we tried and nothing seemed to work for too long. I am confident that we are finally on the right track and will continue updating whatever info. I can get my hands on.
Thank you!! Anything right now will help! OMG!! you all kiddin me!?!? My kid will be 7 years old and I was wonder after the "honeymoon" stage why the meds never work good for long and he always needs a increase. He has been on Folican for a few months now and takes it 3 times a day. 20mg in the morning and 10mg the other two times and I thought thats alot! Cant these meds hurt there hearts? If they go too fast?Wildman could you please take more time into writing your posts? Your post seems very rushed and is difficult to read.
I'm on adderol and I take 40 mg a day. It's a decent amount of medication, however, I've heard of signifigantly higher doses being taken. Yes, most ADHD medication has chances of causing Their hearts problems, however if taken as prescribed the risks and minimal. Theres always a risk in taking medications, however, the benefits outweigh the risks or we would not medicate people the way we do.
Sorry I was kinda in a hurry today. wildman0239918.7766898148Stimulant medication can cause problems if the person has a PREXISITNG HEART CONDITION and/or abuses the medication. When taken as prescribed, the medication in itself does not cause heart problems for those with healthy hearts. Before going on stimulant medication all patients should get clearence from a cardiologist as some people are born with heart problems and are unaware.
