Welcome amy0131 The goal in treatment is not to make your child a guinea pig for these meds. The meds have proven to effectively mange all the symptoms of ADHD for a vast majority of people who truly do have ADHD. Patients are guinea pigs when they try all kinds of remedies or methods that have no proven track record at all to effectively manage symptoms long term. All patients go through a trial of meds as response is very indivdual but after trying 3 or 4 meds with no positive results, its time to revisit the diagnosis. Unfortunately, a small percentage of patients just don't respond well and then there is a possibility that your child was misdiagnosed. This might account for the fact that the meds work and then just stop workin. Thats only one possibility. I would get a second opinion by a specialist to confirm or deny a diagnosis of ADHD and then take it from there. What type of doctor is treating your child's ADHD as an expert in med management would not let this go on for this long without finding some resolve or solutions. My son is in the 3rd grade. We have been looking for the right medicine since he was in Kindergarten. I just don't understand how it works for awhile and then.... all of of sudden it stops.
Does anyone had any luck with alternative medication. If so, please let me know. My poor son is not a guinea pig for all these meds.
Thanks,
