Good Luck and Welcome to the board.! It is good to have you. My son is also oin Concerta and it truly saved him as well. Our 3rd med. finally we can loosen up for a while but puberty is stting in and whoa! Anyway welcome there is a lot of good people and information on these boards.

My 4 yr old son had ADHD.  He is very hyper and impulsive.  He is also having a hard time socially.  I realize that I need support and education on how to parent him.  Any suggestions?  I live in NJ, close to Phila, PA.  I would love to talk to someone, exhange e-mails, advice, tips.  Thanks so much.  I'm  new at this and need all the help I can get, and so does he.

Your son reminds me of mine. He was in early intervention and then went to a integreted preschool. Because of his speech delay and sensory integration, he received an IEP. I wish I had medicated him for kindergarten, he had a tough start that followed him and still does. He is now almost 12.

Have you thought of meds? Depending on his impulsive, hyperness, self regulating, etc, you may want to.

I would get into the school and have him evaluated once he begins. If you can do it sooner, like in preschool, I recommend it. He may be punished for things that he simply cannot control and that is not fair.

Does he have a social life yet? Is he in preschool? There are lots of us here to help where ever you need it!!

we meet with a psyh dr for meds in June, and he was just evaluated by a psychologist on Mon.  I'm hoping to get him an IEP.  He now starting to realize that the other kids don't really like him b/c he's hyper and impulsive.  This breaks my heart.  He is now in pre-school, but really doesn't have any friends.

I'm thinking of trying him on the patch medicine.

My son was also big for his age, he was always off the charts in growth, which didn't help. He looked older, but didn't act it.

I really wish I medicated my son, it has made a world of difference. I also had fights with my family with the way they treated him. It is difficult but we are here for you when you need us.

I have cried many a tear here on the boards, but someone always was there to hold my hand. School will also be cruel, if you don't nip it before it gets difficult.

My son had a friend or two in preschool, but he was also in a class with autistic as well. When he entered kindergarten, things began to change, especially first grade. It was horrible.

We found the patch did nothing, my son is on concerta AND guanfacine, they truly saved his life, actually gave him a life. He is an honor student and plays sports and finished video games that adults can't even play!! HE is extremly smart, and I bet your son is as well!!
