Go with your gut, have her evaluated. Moms have these intuitions, like a 6th sense!!
School can do it when they are in 4th grade, I am told, but I would do it privately. I think they will do a more thorough job. They won't be looking to avoiding another possible 504/IEP student that will cost the school district $$
With marcus i had to make an appointment with our regular doctor and wait 3 months to get into a doctor to have him looked at. I also had the support of his school as they were reallly concered about him. With shiann I dont know if i will have the support of her school. They have her in reading classes and know she is struggling but have not offered any help with her spelling or math. I emailed her teacher that way i know she is getting it because shiann forgets to give her alot of stuff i send to school and i am waiting for a reply. I was hoping to have one this morning but nothing. Her teacher did say during confrences that shiann needs alot of reminders and help keeping her desk organized so she can find things. but that is as far as that went even after i mentioned that she had been getting help in math and help with her spelling at school. I will have to call and make an appointment after we come back from our mothers dau weekend. I just hope that I can get her in before the end of the school year as right now she is really struggling and 4th grade is only going to get harder for her. Then i get to deal with my family again and listen to how there is nothing wrong with my children. I guess to them a 4 yr old is suposed to bounce off the walls and have tons of energy to the point they cant sleep... It makes things alot harder.
make an appt with her general practioner and get him/her to refer her to a child psychiatrist..it's best to have someone outside of the school system to do your evaluation.Ok i was doing some research on ADD and ADHD. Then i had to go through my daughters homework that she had brought home after handing it in. I am really starting to wonder about whats going on with her. For a long time now since 1st grade she has been struggling, I have had her tested through the school and was told that she had emtiotional problems, that is the only explination we got from them. Well alot has changed, she is now in the 3rd grade and she is struggling with reading, spelling and math still even with help. While i was looking at the ADD and ADHD signs and symptoms i started to think of my daughter. All of them fit her. Often fails to give close attention to details. Often makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities.
