should i increase dosage | ADHD Information

have tried the strattrea for 4 days but seems to have more problems at school than without meds. hitting classmates, seems more hyper, harder to follow directions, and seems more aggresive, beginning to wonder if these are the right meds for him

Call the doctor ASAP!!

If the side effects are making things worse, then I would stop the med, BUT call the doctor.

Meds will be a positive result once you get where you need to be.

I am not sure of the dosage, since it is formula based, and needs ramping up then you level off again all forumula and adding the weight of the person to the formula.

ALSO, sometimes all they need is to be at the right dosage for the positive result. It is not a bad med, just not the correct dosage. Unfortunately you can only tell by trying.

He may need to be taken off strattera, like my son.

BUt don't give up on all meds, just this one if it is wrong!! We are here to help you!!

But you need to call the doctor, as we are not doctors, just people with experience with certain meds. My son was aggressive on another med, but depressed on strattera. We stopped the one that made him aggressive and found the one that works for him!!

Is your son impulsive/ hyper type adhd??

my son has taken 18mg of strattrea for 4 days now and no results yet. his doctor gave me two samples for 18mg and 25mg. if the 18 don't work try increasing to 25. have i gave it enough time or is 18 too low. he is 7 years old , weighing at 55 pds.

strattera is one of the very few that builds up in the blood system over time. Did they not give you the dosage to start and them to ramp him up? They should have.

there is a formula, but I do not recall it. I am not happy with the doctor not helping you better!! We had a set of guidlines to follow. It is based on his weight also, very important. His weight will go into the formula, not age.

Unfortunatley, strattera did NOT help my son. he became depressed and wanted to kill himself!! Be careful, that is a side effect of the med.

We need stimulants due to hyper, impulsive, etc. I have read from others that if it is just the attention situation, then strattera works well, as long as the side effects aren't bad.

Call the doctor ASAP- I don't like giving meds with out correct or complete instructions.

Please post back how you made out!! Also there is a old thread about strattera on these boards, go under medications and older children message boards to find the subject. I think it may help!!

BETHANN39941.1711342593Check Medical Disclaimers on the main page of these boards. It talks about strattera. It may be of some help to your son and you!!

yes he is impulsive and hyper, concerta was doing good but dr didn't want to go to 54mg due to being too high, so went to vvanyse but tics started, so we had to stop it then strattrea but aggresive on 18 and 25 mg. tics did stop on it so waiting on dr . he may need a combination can't wait to hear from dr.
