New Medicine - 1st day | ADHD Information

We had an appointment with the psychiatrist today.  Since my dd tolerated Focalin XR well, he wants to try Concerta.  He said it lasts longer than FocalinXR.  So here we start another one.  I have so many bottles of medicine and we just used a few pills out of each.  Hopefully this one does the trick.  He also prescribed ritalin for night time activities.  Well tomorrow I start it.  I will let you know how things go.  I really appreciate everyones help.

What a miracle today has been so far.  My dd went for softball practice and was able to focus and not throw the mit up and down, etc.  She also helped me unload the dishwasher and told me she loved me.  She mentioned to me I think this is the right medicine and the right dose.    It has taken a few tries but I think we finally found the right one for my dd.  Yeh!!!!  Good luck to everyone.

How do you get her to take the Focalin XR? I am considering using this for
my son but I am having issues on how to get it in him. It cant be crushed or
chewed.

I am glad its working for you!

You can't crush a capsule but you can open it up and put it in a bite of food. Alot of people use applesauce, we used ice cream but he could still tell. I have heard of someone putting it in a pop-tart. You have to get sneaky about it. How old is your child? You can start practicing swallowing a pill with mini m$m's or tic tacs.

Also there is a pill cup that holds the pill and it goes down when they drink I have heard. Good Luck!

I am glad for you that the Focalin is working out. We use short acting Focalin to add to my sons everyday regime if he needs it for homework or Boy Scouts at nite.  I hope it continues to be the one for your daughter.

My dd has started Focalin XR 5 mg and what a difference.  She already seems calmer and we have a neighbor over and I don't have to constantly watch to see if my dd is going to hit her and say weird comments and make her want to leave.

I was nervous giving her the medicine after the disastrous reaction from the other medicine but so far all is good.
