Medication Doesnt Help | ADHD Information
Hi. My ds is 7 years old and we have tried many medications, and various dosages. My son just does not seem to respond to medication. We've tried Ritalin, Foculin, D-Amphetamine, and perhaps one or two others. Has anyone ever encountered this problem and if so, what did you do?I tried anti-depressants about 5 years ago and they did nothing for me. I tried generics Ritalin SR and Adderall and they haven't worked. My specialist wants me to try Adderall XR but unless she can get my insurance to cover the cost, I'm reaching a dead end fast. I have read in Hallowell's books that 10%-20% of people with ADHD don't respond to stimulants. There are other options. Omega-3 is popular. Of course there are non-FDA approved herbal remedies and there are always behavior modification techniques. But you have to have full cooperation from the individual and 7 year olds aren't always cooperative. Keep an open mind about your options and read all you can. It may be that your son is in that population but that doesn't mean there is no help. :)
