The 504 meeting was today and done without difficulty.  The following are the special accomodations that my child will be getting next year ( as far as I can remember)

1. preferential seating up front but on the end of the row so he can have #2 on the list

2. Movement breaks as needed

3. He takes tests written and then takes them orally to prove he knows the informatin

4. He will get a "peer buddy" to help him with social cues

5. because he tends to rush through his work, if there is a 10 step program, he will be told that he can do steps 1-4 but cannot go on until the teacher looks at those steps and ok's his work.  That way he cannot rush through.

you get either a 504 or an IEP but not both.Jessica N39967.8907986111well, the letter was a culmination from info and advice given from people here on the board and I was told that they DO have meetings over the summer.  By law, I was told that they have to have the entire process completed within a certain time alotted but I do not know what that time is.  I was also informed at school that my sons 2nd grade teacher is moving up to 3rd grade and she will have him in class over my dead body!!!!!!Great job longsally  You are correct in that they have to comply within a certain time frame. Please keep us informed and we are here whenever you need us

I wrote the following letter to the principal at my sons school:

Ms. xxxxx:        I am writing to you to discuss the development of a plan for xxxxxx for 3rd grade at xxxxxxxx.  This year that just completed was not xxxxxx most successful year due to numerous factors and I am hoping to make next year better and more productive for him.       To start with, I am requesting a 504 plan and IEP be done this summer for xxxx so it can be in place for him at the start of the school year.  The official letter from Developmental Pediatrics is being dropped off on 06/01/2009 at the front office to your attention.       This school year was very upsetting for xxxx due to the teasing that he endured in the classroom and so I would like to request that he be placed in the classroom of whomever you feel is best equipped to have good control over their class and knowledge of how to teach an ADHD child effectively.      Due to the fact that this was such a trying and emotional year due to the amount of bullying xxxx endured,  I would like to request that xxxxxxxx be allowed to stay in the same class with xxxx next year.      He and xxxx have become good friends and after discussing it with xxxx mother, we both feel that the boys can benefit from being together and knowing that they are starting the year off having one good solid friend in their class that they can count on.  This would be emotionally supportive for xxxx.      I look forward to hearing from you and if you would contact me at your earliest convenience and let me know how long this process takes and when I can expect to get  the 504 and IEP plan in place.  Please let me know if you need any additional information to expedite this process.    Sincerely   xxxxxx     I have a letter from the drs with his diagnosis on it and it requests preferential seating and extended time on tests and projects.  It also  states that he is easily embarassed and that if he is embarassed at school in class this will intefere with his ability to retrieve information.  She has already responded that I should bring in any testing already done and that the vp at the school is in charge of this and will be notified.  I am hoping this is in place by the start of the school year!!Excellent!

Don't know if they'll do it over the summer, but they'll at least have it
started immediately upon the start of the school year. I'm such a pain at my
school that I had a reup IEP meeting the first week - it was fantastic because
his new teacher was there and she was immediately brought up to speed on
his condition. And he's had a great school year.

Best of luck!Well worded and written letter.  I'm glad the 504 meeting went well.
