New Meds Time? | ADHD Information
Last time I went to the doc, in hope of trying a new med, she basically laughed me off.
I really don't like the side effects of Adderall. I get this annoying buzzy feeling and get tired and this "bleh" feeling, when I take meds too much. I don't like the occasional clammy hands and increased anxiety that it gives. (I already get panic attacks sometimes, only increased by the meds) It messes with my appetite. And makes me thirsty. It used to make me have to "go" a lot.
She basically laughed and said that I needed to sleep more. I get a good 7.5 hours a night. Considering I'm a senior in high school, how much sleep my friends get, and that I will only sleep 8 hours or so when left unattended, I felt pretty good about how much sleep I was getting.
Lately, my depression has been pretty bad, too. In the past, it has gone away in the summer.
Doc said to come back in three months, but I really don't want to be laughed at again. :/
Any thoughts? Should I go back? Try something different? Ones you have to take everyday? Anti-depressants?
Thanks! =P
Print out this post and hand it to her. You should get an apology and a
new prescription.
If she gives you any lip reiterate that you have experienced a personality
change and depression. If you called her and said that she'd schedule an
appointment tomorrow to take care of it.
If you are still concerned she won't listen to you bring an advocate -
insist that you want someone there with you to make sure you ask every
question, make every point, and to take notes about her answers so
you're sure you understand everything she says. People do that all the
time when they have serious conditions.
I'm really sorry you are feeling this way. The medication is supposed to
make your life easier, not dull it away. I'm sorry I don't have any advice
about what you should do, other than I completely agree based on your
description that you should be on a different medication. And if you are
on the correct ADHD med you probably won't need an antidepressant
because you won't have the depressive side effects anymore.
I'm not a doctor - I don't want to steer you wrong. I'm a big mouth
parent. No way would I put up with being treated like that! Don't worry
about insulting her - obviously she isn't understanding what you're telling
her or she wouldn't dismiss you that way.
When is your appointment? Please take care of yourself between now and
then. Let us all know how it turns out. Good luck!
