Vyvanse and horrible headache | ADHD Information

Share
My Psychiatrist diagnosed me with ADHD 9 days ago and started me on
Vyvanse. 30mg for one week then upping it 10mg each week until
desired dose is achieved. I've had a headache every day since starting
meds, but they have been tolerable. Yesterday I woke up with a bad one
and also started 40mg. that morning(after headache). I've tried a
different remedy every day with no avail. The only thing that seems to
help is a hot bath or heating pad applied to the head/forehead.
Stimulants are vasoconstrictors which means your blood vessels
constrict(tighten) and heat is a vasodilator which will cause the blood
vessels to dilate. I've had these same headaches since childhood but off
and on. They are behind the eyes and on top of the head. Also, my left
temporomandibular joint area is sore on left side of my head which I'm
assuming is from the teeth clenching I'm havng from Vyvanse. This can
lead to a tension headache. My other side effects are dry mouth, mild
anxiety at onset and emotional and tired when it wears off. Overall I love
this medication and it lasts about 11 hours for me. The headaches are
the worst part and if I find a solution or find that they subside after time I
will leave a post about that.My son complained of a headache once or twice when we were first starting him on it.  But after 2 weeks of it he has had no headache.  Maybe it's just one of those side effects that works it way out once your body adjusts to the medicine.thanks for the replies but I think it is more eye related and not caused by
vyvanse because because the headaches continued after I stopped taking
the medicine, although they did get better once exams were over and I was
not reading as much. I still get headaches when I read, though not as bad. I
also didn't get a headache for the first 2 weeks of taking vyvanse, so
although the headaches are not completely solved I am pretty sure they are
not related to vyvanse at least directly. I have headaches with and my body temp raises like crazy. They say safer than adderall, but i want to go back to 100 mgs of adderall a day over this extended release crap. Been on for 2 months now and no change  except worse headaches. I do agree it is better for social anxiety though. They need to do more tests on this one I started taking Vyvanse about 2 weeks ago. I started on 20mgs and was
told to increase it every couple of days. I am now taking 60mgs and I
really really like this medicine. I have never found one that works this
well. It is smoother, I am not as anti-social on it and I can focus so much
better on it. It came at a great time since I am finishing up a particularly
busy quarter but the problem I have been having the last few days, is that
I keep getting a headache. I am trying to figure out if it is the medicine
causing it because I am going back to my doctor in 2 days to tell him
what dose worked best. I started on 60 on tuesday and didn't get any
headaches until thursday. It wasn't a bad one, just kinda random and in
the middle of the day and I didn't think of it being med related because
like I said it wasn't too bad. I just took a pain killer and got some coffee
and it didn't bother me again. I didn't do much school work and took
40mgs on friday because I usually don't take it on friday but I didn't want
to go completely off of it and I didn't get any headache that day. Then
yesterday I took 60mgs at noon and later in the afternoon got a headache
similar to the previous one. I didn't think much of it and took a pain
killer. Well around 8pm last night it came back but it was really painful
and I couldn't focus on my work anymore. Motrin didn't help either. It was
around my eyes and forehead and I had chills. I thought it was a fluke at
the time and then this morning I took 60 at noon and in the afternoon I
got the same headache which went away with motrin and then around
8pm I got the exact same bad headache as the night before at the same
time which made me think it may be med related, I just don't know why it
would start happening now. The other part of me thinks it may not be
med related at all. I tend to get headaches(though not this bad) in the
same location when I am reading a lot and this week is finals weeks so
for the past week and especially this weekend I have been studying most
of the time. I also don't sleep much but haven't for this whole year and
also in high school but even more this quarter. I go to bed around 3 but
sometimes as late as 5 and then I get up around 9 for class. The last two
nights I got 7 hours of sleep though. I have been having trouble sleeping
or falling asleep lately though and it could be from taking the medicine
later like noon but it is about 3 or so when i am trying to fall asleep so
you would think it wouldn't be a problem. I also feel like I am not
sleeping as well or keep waking up or something but this could be
because of finals. The past two quarters I have had headaches the whole
finals week but not one bad enough to stop me from reading or that a
pain killer can't take care of. I don't know if this is just due to exams, the
fact that I do need a new prescription in my glasses, sleep issues or
medication. I don't want to tell the doctor because I am worried that it
could just be finals related like the last two finals but maybe more painful
because I am overdue for new glasses but he would take me off of it and I
really like this medicine and didn't get this until thursday and not really
painful until yesterday. Any advice would be great because my head is
killing me and I can hardly read which sucks during finals week.
Fortuantely, I don't have any finals tomorrow.
