New to Vyvanse | ADHD Information
redsgal,
if your daughter is zombied out more than just the first day, I suggest calling the doctor if you haven't already. sounds like the dosage might be too high, which is easily remedied by opening the capsule and administering less than the full amount--again, check with doctor. I suspect that if after a reasonable trial period, if problems persist, you and your doctor will decide that Vyvanse isn't suited for your daughter.
My son is 5 and our doctor started him at 20mg. 20mg is the lowest dose capsule they make. After a month we moved him up to 30mg and I think we are getting ready to go up to 40mg. Focalin worked great for my son but he turned into a zombie and wasn't my happy go lucky little boy anymore. Vyvanse gave him his personality back but we are having problems getting it to last longer than 8 hours so I think we will increase his dosage. If lowering your daughter's dosage of Vyvanse doesn't help and she can swallow pills maybe you can try concerta since it is the same drug family as focalin which you said worked for her. It works for 12 hours.
Our little girl is 7 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD when she was 4 years old. She was diagnosed after repeatedly running out of her daycare down the middle of the road. She was on Focalin until this week where the doctor stated that it was not doing what we needed to and she was already on 20 mg a day which was the highest dose she could take at her age and size. I was very upset because up until now it had worked beautifully.
Today we started the first dose of Vyvanse at 30mg. I 'm not sure if this is normal or what is going on but she is like zombie. She just went to lay down for the second time today and it is only 7pm. Is Vyvanse a drug that needs time to get into her system and will then level out??? What has been others experience with it? Thank you in advance for any input to this.
