ok, we went on vacation to Universal Studios in Florida. It was very hot there. Anyway, we got fast passes due to my sons adhd free of charge and they made all the difference. He was somewhat difficult on vacation and I expected this but my hubby buckled down and told him that he would only speak to him once and after that, trouble was coming his way. When we got to Daytona beach, he wanted to go into the pool all day. When we went the next day to the pool, it was the ocean he whined for, see what I mean? never satisfied.
We got back about 4 days ago and I am not sure what happenned. My son has been in a good mood!!! He follows directions and does things when asked!! We went to the pool yesterday and he didnt fight with anyone!! He got into pajamas when I asked him to, even brushed his teeth!!!! He discovered his inside voice and has been using it. am afraid to embrace this new change as I know from past experiences that te second I do, he will revert!!!
I am not sure what did it.
Could you maybe ask him why he is having an easier time lately? Without making a big deal out of it, but just ask him while the two of you are doing something else. He might be able to provide you with some insights that will help you in the future. My son went to Disney World and was wonderful there, despite being in awell, all I can say is, WOW!!! He is so cooperative it is unfunny!!. I asked him what he did with my real son and who was he and he busted out laughing!!!!!
I told hubby that maybe he was different because he could sleep in on the mornings and not get up early and maybe that is amking a difference. I am not sure.
Could be - he might not be tired (I'm grumpy when I'm tired!) and it couldJust a thought, but perhaps his improved behavior is because he is back in his "safe space" and his routine? I have found that these kids usually do better with routine and schedules. Perhaps getting back into his "home ground" with his usual routine has helped him to calm.
I don't want to be a wet blanket, but I wouldn't expect it to last. I hope for your sake it might, but experience has taught me it won't. Enjoy the down time to refresh and relax! :)
so far. so good, still doing great!!!!! Only a slight raise in his voice today but other than that, he played in a group of a total of 6 today and there were NO major problems. I dont know what is going on here!!I'm just curious, is he on medication at all?
It's great that he's doing so well! I think that we (parents of ADHD kids) appreciate these good times more than the average parent!
Medication gives the ability, but they still have to choose to exercise it. Good outcomes are the result of effort by the individual.
