help its me again | ADHD Information

My son had similar type behaviors when he was on Adderall and it was wearing off.  Uncontrolable emotions, screaming, crying hysterically for CRAZY reasons. It could be rebound from the meds wearing off (and triggered by the higher dose) or it just may be that she's over medicated with the higher dose.  Call the doc ASAP.  He/she should be able to help right away.

Good luck!

Please let us know how things are going. You are doing a great job. You obviously want the best for your child, and you found your way here!!

And don't fret, you specialize in early childhood education, not ADHD. That is for doctor's!!

I would go back to the lower dose for a while and see how it goes. When my
ds first tried concerta, the 18 mg was not enough and 27 was too much.
That was when he was 5. Now at 9 we give him 54mg. In between, we
found Focalin and Daytrana to work.

Hi there, I am having problems with my little angel, lasy weekend kate swallowed a coin and it got stuck in her windpipe we went off to hospital to get it removed, 6 hours later, (they forgot us at thre drs),any way when we were dischsnged we went to the ped and he was happy with Kates leval of concentration but decided to increase concerta 18mg to 27mg OMG ITS HELL

she is awake it 11pm

she is screaming and irrational

today 4 days later she is screaming at me becuase i didnt go to a petting zoo to get a zebra (the letter for the week was z that the class were studing)

watching her cry and scream at me is heart breaking , she is very tired; tonight she is screaming and going into a rage becuase she cant get what she is doing right. when i try to intervene to help she yells i can do it go away.

hubby comes home and kate responds to his help after he takes her into a room for quiet time and he sits, cuddles and says nothing to her.

it hurts that she does not want me. what have i done wrong i know she loves me but i guess we clash

do you believe the dose is too high and that could be the cause? Did you increase her do to what happened with swallowing the coin? Impulsive behavior? My son takes guanfacine to help him with that in addition to the concerta. I wonder if it could help your daughter. I would call your doctor and tell him/her what is happnening since increasing the concerta and ask about guanfacine (tenex). Maybe it could smooth things for her with this additional med.

Please keep us posted!!

are these new behaviors or set patterns?  if they are set patterns (screaming at you), then there's more than just medication.  If they're new behaviors because of lack of sleep, then it could be that the dosage is too high.

I will add that my son couldn't handle adderall xr. It made him act the way you are decribing with your daughter. It was horrible. The teacher told me everything bothered him and that he got in kids faces because he was that irritable. We happened to be going to the pediatrician and he witnessed it. Needless to say, he never took that med again.

Everyone is different, even at different doses.

Call the prescribing doctor ASAP!!

This was the drs idea to put the med up we just agreed thinking that it it would be a good idea. I now want to decrease the meds down again to 18mg . Did it have anything to do with the coin , no i think it was for to see if it was to make things better.i will ask about that med thank you sooo much

i think concerta does work for kate to some extent her learning at school is fabulous.

yes yes patterns are just at home she is well behavioued at school, and at after school , this is why i am so confused and upset becuase she does just for us.

the worst part about it is i am an early childhood teacher!
