I can never focus in a nosy environment. actually for me to focus there has to be one noise only. Say the house is silent and someone is talking on the phone or watching tv while I'm trying to read or work on the pc. Thats all it takes I can't tune out the other noises they all come in just as loud and my brain acts like they are all equally important and can't decide what to listen too.
My brain works that way for making desicions too. "normal" people have a list of whats most important and needs to get done to what can wait. My head says they are all equally important so if I pick one thing I can't do the other which is just as important and will be a problem if it doesn't get done. Of course meds help a lot with this, I can shut out a lot more sounds and actually make desicions while the meds are in my system.
My only real sensory issue is not liking to be touched a lot. Some times I'm fine with it but other times I can't stand it. It's mostly my ears (I know it's so weird) if someone or something touches my ears I freak out. I can't even let my hair touch my ears. I usually wear a baseball cap so there is no chance my ears will be bothered. I also cut my hair as soon as it start touching them and bothering me.
LOL I hear you on the medications Nyquill and all that stuff makes me bounce off the walls, and I'm usually bouncing off the walls anyway so when I take that I'm going right threw the walls

I think my friend's feel I'm not listening to them, but I am trying.

Well, glad to see i'm not alone in this. I am 35yr. old,but never have seen a doctor about my problem. They say i'm too old to be tested for anything now.Since when is 35 too old? I can read something, but not remember it later.I'l be in the middle of a conversation & stop because I forgot what I was saying. Now my son Cree has come along with a lot of problems,so I need to focus on him first. If only I could get the right answers. They call it adha, depression, angery, just lazy,&now I have to take him to a phychatrist next week.Oh yea,I get the run around also.First I took him to his doctor,he said take him to a couseler, get him to say adhd & then we'll talk.Did that for a while. He was on Strattera&started really acting funny.Doc says I have paranoid mom syndrom.Left that doc got a new one.She listens, but sends him to a behavior speciallist. She sends us to a psycologist who now sends me to a psycyatrist, along with 2 different medications & atun of paperwork can't fill out because I don't understand it! I feel to stupid to ask for help cause someone might laugh at me.My dad always said I would never amount to anything.Glad to make ya proud pops!!
HI I m also new here I have ADD had ADHD as a child but no one knew it struggled lot in school I think i only passed because the teachers didn't want to deal with me for another year!! I did stay back in 3rd grade and spent the whole year behind a piano in the corner of the classroom because the teacher didn't want to deal with me. When I got into the middle school I made it through 6th grade went to 7th spent the first half of my 7th grade in the 7th grade then got moved to the 8th so one year I went through 7th and 8th grade they told my parents that I was too mature for the other kids So on the high school I went got through my freshman year then got pregnant with my now 11 year old son I then dropped out of school when I was 5 months along he's doing good in school not too much of a struggle for him and i am very much involved with his schooling because i feel like my parents weren't as much as they should of been 4 years later I had my youngest son who is now 8 and has been Diagnosed with ADHD I refuse to let him struggle like his mom did. I too have a hard time dealing with everyday task I forget everything (sticky notes are my best friend) oh restaurants are bad for me I sometimes think everyones talking about me or i just find myself listening to other conversations even with meds this doesn't stop I do take zoloft 100 mgs a day or depression and it does help some of my symptoms from ADD My son is on ADDERALL 15 mgs. a day and we are still working on getting it figured out. But having ADD myself has helped me to understand him better I sometimes know how he feels when he's frustrated!! This is a wonderful place here Ty for having itHi.
My husband has ADD and he cannot concentrate if there are noises distracting him. When he was studying at home, he would throw our cat out if it was purring at the other end of the room. If he is trying to concentrate he cannot have other noises so we all have to be quiet. He cannot bear anyone tapping their fingers or feet and extraneous noises in the cinema will take his attention over so that he can't watch the film.
He can't stand my son's music which has a heavy beat (he also has ADD) and says it is driving him mad but he plays classical music including opera (Wagner) etc at a volume likely to crack the paint. Why is this?
I am the opposite...well kind of. I get extremely irritated by noises around me, but when I take medicines that say "may cause drowsiness" I pass out. All medicine makes me sleepy. Even if I take dayquil, or tylenol sinus daytime, I still pass out.
