Another Blow | ADHD Information
A while ago I shared with all of you the frustration I had over the
fact that my insurance does not cover any of my ADHD medication costs.
Well, today, I had an appointment with my therapist and we were trying
to get an additional 6 (yes, only 6) visits covered. She got a letter
stating that this, too, was denied because policy states on page 22 of
my handbook blah, blah, blah, sh*t. I live in a state where there's a
law of parity - meaning that insurance companies can't discriminate
against coverage for mental health. What might make it complicated is
that I think my company is in part, self-insured. I don't quite
understand what that means but that I think is the loop hole the
insurance company may and can and will use. So, not only am I f---ed
out of medication coverage, but I am f---ed out of a lousy 6 additional
visits as well! I don't have many other options that won't cost me a
butt load of money.
I am going to let my therapist fight with the insurance company because
if I were to approach my HR dept., it could jeopardize my job. I am
going to look into alternative insurance policies through American
Family Insurance (they cover my car and renter's insurance currently).
I know it'll be expensive but having the information can't hurt.
So, needless to say, I'm angry, frustrated, disappointed, depressed.
Gee, would they cover me if I were suicidal? Can't help but wonder
about that. So, I have 8 more visits to last me the rest of the year.
Whoopie. I plan on sharing this situation with my sister (who has been
so unbelievably supportive) but I'm just not sure what to say yet. A
miracle would be that my family rallied together and got me the money
to pay for those 6 visits. But that is unlikely.
Just wondering if anyone else has crappy insurance too. And because I
have insurance in the first place, that automatically makes me
ineligible for things like free medicine. (shakes head) Sigh.
