Focalin and Clonidine | ADHD Information

Does anyone have any experience with Focalin and Clonidine being used together?  My son is 7 and will be in the 2nd grade.  He makes very good grades, he is even in the gifted program, but he can't seem to keep his hands to him self and doesn't think before he responds to confrontational situations.  He has been on meds for ADHD for about 8 months now.  He is taking Focalin 5 mg in the am and 7.5 mg at noon.  He displays every symptom of ODD but has not been formally diagnosed.  The doctor has now prescribed Clonidine to help with his behavior.  We barely made it through the 1st grade without any suspensions but last week he was supspended from summer camp.  I hope we can get this under control before school starts back.  Any advice would be appreciated. We don't have experience with clonidine, only focalin. You might want to try
concerta which is like focalin, but long lasting. You might need a longer
lasting med.We use focalin xr 10 mg for our 11 yr old son and he also has had tics so the ped neurologist put him on clonidine .5 mg 1/2 pill in the aM and1/2 pill in the PM.  The combo seems to have worked but tics are coming back so I may up the dose or try tenex for him.  Clonidine is for lowering blood pressure for adults but works differently for kids.  We have had a good experience with it.  The med did make him tired- which is good in the pm but bad in the am.  Tenex is supposed to be less sedating.  Ask the dr about that one too.  The clonidine seems to have helped him with his anger too.  He seems to be able to control himself a bit more on it.  We started him on the clonidine bu itself for a week to see how he did and them added the focalin.  Good luck  --  Personally I think the two meds together are good.  Try him this summer for a week on just the clonidine or tenex and see if you see any difference than with no meds then add the stimulant.  Jsut a suggestion.  Worked for us.
