Strattera side effects | ADHD Information
With my daughter who started taking Straterra at age 6, she is now 11, I have seen a great change in her and honestly I haven't seen any side effect. She is able to concentrate for a longer period of time. She is diagnosed bipolar as well as adhd. We tried Adderal and Concerta and she had violent reactions to them. So, I am an advocate of strattera. I think what I like most is that she can't become addicted to it.Hello everyone-
Was hoping I could get some input on a question I have.
I am going to be starting my son who is 8 years old on
Strattera next week. I am wondering the about the most
common side effects that you all have seen in your
children, and also, how quickly did they start? I know
there have been previous posts about this medication, but
I am overwhelmed with all the info so I thought I would
try to get some for myself in my own post. I would
appreciate it! I am just so nervous about this. He was
taking concerta, but then developed some serious tics so
he also started on Clonidine. Now his doctor is going to
try Strattera to get rid of his tics but still help him
with the ADD. I know this could be a great change for
him, but I am also so nervous about the side effects.
Thanks everyone!I am also interested in an update on how your kids are doing on Straterra. My son is hyperactive/impulsive and I have been told by doctors that Straterra wouldn't be a good option for him. But now he has developed tics so we started Clonidine, which helps the tics a bit and Clonidine does seem to really help the hyperactivity/impulsivity. I'm now wondering if Straterra might work well for him with the Clonidine.
The tics are so frustrating! Dexedrine products, which are better for his mood, cause vocal tics and Methlyphenidate products cause motor ones. Concerta at 36mg seems to be our only other option at this point if Straterra doesn't look like it is worth a try. He had minimal motor tics on Concerta with the Clonidine and no vocal ones. But Concerta does make him a bit more moody.
Well, we are about 6 weeks into the Stratterra, and i haven't seen much. He is tolerating it well with no real side effects, but by itself it is not enough, as ds is hyper/impulsive, too. Right now it is paired with 36 mg concerta and Clonidine for the tics. The three seem to be working pretty well together, neither one sufficient on its own, for the adhd symptoms, but tics are still there (maybe not quite as bad). We are getting ready to pursue neurofeedback therapy, hoping that at the least we can reduce meds to point that we can lose the tics...theres a solution out there somewhere, we just have to find it....good luck!Hi AJsmama- felt like I could be writing the very same thing and having the very same situation-just started the Straterra today - i see that this post is a few weeks old, and wondering what your experience has been since starting the Straterra? I feel like my 8 y/o son has been one summer-long science experiment. The stims have worked for the past 21/2 years, but the tics got so bad it was painful to watch. The Clonodine helped some, but not nearly enough. So...how's it going for you?
