Since April of this year, I've started treatment for ADHD. Half the battle was just getting the right diagnosis...now it's medication I'm struggling with. I tried Straterra first. Slowly. (history of substance abuse..) I didn't want to jump into something that could jeapordize staying sober. Any way that did nothing but make me REALLY tired. Then I tried vyvanse. It did help me focus a little better and get things done and I was also in a better mood. Less irritable. The side effects stunk though. I got upset stomach and headaches. The effectiveness of it didn't outweigh the side effects. So now I'm on focalin 30mg once a day.
Here's my biggest problem....decreased appetite. Im 22 yrs old. 5'4" and I weigh a whopping 99-100 lbs. I have always been small and i have NEVER had an eating disorder. But I have never been this skinny..over the winter I weighed 112. I've always had GI issues and my weight would fluctuate but since I've been trying this medication I can't eat anything! I feel week and tired and I'm getting sick very easily. (2 weeks of the flu!) My stomach feels empty but the thought of physically comsuming food makes me gag.. ITS SO FRUSTRATING.
I'm a vet tech I work at a dogs only clinic. Recently my boss told me that I needed to start gaining weight and getting healthier...that I look like I don't take care of myself. I can't be lifting 124 lbs german shepherds...my hands shake so much that I can't draw blood or trim toenails as quickly.
I feel like I'm starving to death. I live alone and cooking for myself is a challenge...everything is a challenge. I still don't know quite how to handle this...I just really need some advice or something. i feel like these meds could work if I could just reach a healthier weight and have better eating habits. but where do i start?...
any thoughts on this? thanks
Sounds like you may be on too high of a dose or the wrong medication. There's others you can try. Also, on weekends, many people take "vacations" from their meds. This might help your appetite on the weekend so you can eat more. Talk to your doctor about lowering your dosage. good luck.
