Tenex only at night?

My 11yo son has been on Daytrana patch for two years and has developed tics.  His psychiatrist gave us Tenex 1mg for him to take at night.  After reading here we have been giving him .5 pm and .5 am.  I am wondering if only taking it at night like doc said will have any effect on him during the day.  Seems like it would wear off by morning.  I am hoping to have the most tic control during the school day.  Which way would be best, 1mg at night or 1/2 morning and night?  Today was the first day he took the am dose and didn't seem tired.

Thanks!
Heather

We have tried different combinations of dosing for my daughter.   I think it really depends on the child.   For us,  1 mg in the AM and 1 mg in the PM works best.  When I tried .5 & 1.5 - she was more agitated in the evenings and had more tics during the day.

My son takes 1mg in the morning when he takes his concerta. We also have it incase he needs more during the day.

Why do you think at night? I would think during the day. It is great how we can break them in half and adjust accordingly. My son has also never been tired on the med. It just calms him down with overstimulation. It works great with the concerta.

How did things go after the first day?

My son does not take Tenex but I am wondering if he should. My son is on concerta but does not have tics but I am experiencing hyper activity in the morning and the evening. Would taking the tenex help calm him in the morning and the evening when given? We are currently take Clonidine at night and lately it seems like it is not working.

hockeymom264,

We have been on this combo for 5 years now. We have had only success.

May I ask, is the concerta at the right doseage do you believe?

My child's dr. says you can take up to 3 mg per day of Tenex (he's 9, if that affects anything). With our son it seems to wear off after about 10 hours or so.... that's why we give a night dose for sleep/cam mornings.
