can someone please tell me what options are given to stimulate appetite?  i know years back dd was given periactin...

if anyone is using any or has in the past i would love to hear please! thanks!

I have the same issue with my son who is on Concerta.  He hasn't lost any weight, but hasn't gained any sinc 3/09.  I try to give him a big breakfast before I give him the meds in the morning and we eat our dinner late.  I also give him Boost shakes and protein bars.  In the month's edition of ADDitude they give a list of protein bars that are palatable for kids like ours.  Larabar is one, my son loves the lemon.  We have our next appt. on 10/1 with a new prescriber.  My son did horrible on Focalin and Adderal.

My son lost his appetite with concerta, however, he didn't lose weight either. After a year, his body adjusted and he started gaining and growing.

We also had trouble with adderall xr. We had to switch to concerta.

We also take guanfacine(tenex) which helps with eating and sleeping, I believe. My son has been on this combo for over 5 years!

I think for us keeping our son on meds 24/7 and letting his body adjust was key. He is now 5'2" and 115lbs. He just turned 12.

I think taking them off the med to gain weight can also get in the way of their body adjusting. It is a turn on / turn off situation. It is what worked best for us.
