OK, my son is now on a combo of Ritalin LA, Risperdal and Trileptal. I'm confused about the Ritalin LA and Risperdal though because of what they supposedly to do the brain. So isn't an ADHD kid supposed to have low dopamine levels? Stimulants are supposed to increase these levels, right? We do notice a positive difference in my son with stimulants. But he also has some tics, anger, irritability/anxiety, OCD. So we are trying Risperdal, but Risperdal blocks dopamine and seratonin. Why do we want to block those? Isn't he already low on dopamine and doesn't seratonin help with mood and anxiety? It seems to me that a stimulant and Risperdal contradict each other, but I know many kids take both. I'm just trying to understand it all and I'm worried about my son on too many meds. |
