rebounds from ritalin- HELP

Hi

My son recently started taking Concerta in the morning and then Ritalin in the evening in order for him through sports and homework. Around 8:00 at night he seems to get really bad rebounds and it is a struggle to get him to go to bed we are constantly arguing and neither one of us get any sleep at night nowadays. I do give him two and half tablets of clonidine but it does not seem to work lately with the ritalin. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. HELP.

What time are you giving the Ritalin?  Is there any way to give it earlier so it's worn off by bedtime?I have been giving my son the Ritalin around 5:00 or 5:30 and around 8:00 or 9:00 he is fired up, arguing, yelling  and being fresh. I give him Clonidine, two and half tablets around 7:30 and it does not seem to help.

How old is he?  Perhaps he'd be more motivated to get on PJs, brush teeth, and do other things to get ready for bed if you try this.  Tell him that he's been having trouble getting ready for bed after the Ritalin wears off.  Unless he changes his behavior, he'll have to get on his PJs, brush teeth, etc. at 7:30 PM while the Ritalin is still in his system.  Hopefully that'll motivate him enough to change.

My child takes an extended release stimulant and Tenex.  His behavior at night is difficult sometimes.  During these times, I tell him that he's not acting appropriately around other people, so he needs to go to his room and be on his own.  I don't use a punitive tone.  He'll then play his pinball game or do something else in his room.  That seems to help him calm down.

Our doc gave us Focalin short acting for after school but I would only give it around 3:30-4:30 as I need it worn off by bedtime and I need him to eat dinner as well. My son is 11 and is on Concerta45 and he metabolizes fast.
