I am new to this board and very new to this way of life with my 8 year old son. I am just trying to start this medication with him. The doctor gave him starttera but my son will not swallow pills. he has a high gag reflux. So I would like to see if there is some liquid form of medicine for him to take.  Thank youSome stimulants which come in extended, slow release forms do come in the capsule form.  Many people open them and sprinkle them in applesauce or yogurt for their kids.  However, when I was a kid, I was told, "you'll swallow it".  Period.  There were no arguments allowed.  Didn't matter if I gagged.  I learned to swallow the pills.  I know that's harsh but hey, that's what parents did 40 years ago.  Glad to see parenting has softened a bit in that regard. :)  Good luck to you. I believe that there is a form of Ritalin, called methalyn maybe that does come in a liquid form. The other idea is Vyvanse, you can open the capsule and dump into liquid (no high citric acid drinks) and he can drink it . We had to do that for a while but as it became apparent to us this was the wrong med for our son he had to learn to swallow pills in order to get the right med. Good luckMetadate cd, focalin xr, adderall xr all come in capsule form- more may but those are the ones i know about.  You can put them in applesause in the am.  I just put it on a spoon with the applesause for my son that won't swallow.  My son is on Methylin which is a chewable form of Ritalin.  My son says it tastes like candy.  He knows how to swallow pills now but we've had such good luck with the Methylin that we've stuck with it.
