| Metadate CD~ The good, bad and the ugly?? | |||
| |
So, my son took his first dose (10mg) this morning After 2hrs he didn't seem ANY different. Now, nearly 4hrs later, he's quiet, calm and not hungry (the boy is never hungry though so I can't contribute this to the meds). He's focusing well on his games (before he loved his games but would only play for a few minutes at a time before he moved to something else). We'll see how the rest of the day goes but I'm going to say that I think it might not be QUITE enough, but we'll give it until Mon or Tuesday before we make a final decision. What have your experiences been with this med? I DO like that he's not nearly as emotional/moody on this as he was the Vyvanse. That's a MAJOR plus! Metadate CD is fabulous for my child! He has great ADHD control, and it hasn't changed his personality at all. Appetite also is affected less than it was on Focalin XR. He's been on 60 mg for nearly 2 years now. Obviously there are no no issues of developing tolerance to it like he had on Focalin XR every few months. The only other stimulant he's taken was Focalin XR. I switched him off that one b/c I realized that it was making him very withdrawn for a couple of hours per day. He was way too quiet, like he wasn't even participating in life. I hope Metadate CD works out as well for your child as it has for mine!
My son is on Methylin-it's the chewable form of Mediadate- and it works very well for him! He was too moody and irritable on Adderall and it's not as bad with the Methylin. It still makes him a little moody so he also takes Tenex and that does the trick. enough. He's still his perky/happy self (good) and he's still eating/sleeping well, but his impulse control is completely out the window. It's almost like he's on NO meds, and I am 100% certain he's getting the entire dose. I do like, that even on this small dosage that there's no side effects, at least, none that we're seeing (or that he's feeling). Waiting to hear back from the ped on upping the dose to 20mg. We'll see! Hope we can get it figured out before school starts on the 8th! |
