7 yr old med side effects - help | ADHD Information

My 7 year old just started on concerta a week ago and I am concerned.  She is now picking her skin compulsively and has never done it before.  She is also withdrawn and her sunny self is gone.  I feel absolutely terrible that I am doing the wrong thing for her.  Will these side effects go away?I tried 8 different meds with my 7 year old daughter earlier this year before we found one that works without all of the side effects that you mention.  If Concerta is not right for your child, ask your doctor to select something else.  Don't give up hope!!!

What is the doseage? Do you think it is too high? Her skin picking sounds like anxiety. A LOT of adhd'ers have co-morbid's that go along with the adhd, my son also has anxiety. He takes guanfacine in addition to concerta.

Not everyone can handle these meds. But believe me, there is one for your daughter. My son couldn't handle adderal xr, it made him irritable, emotional, etc. his eyes were even dialated like he was "high", it was my husbands biggest complaint. I don't think he lasted a full week on it.

I would call her prescribing doctor asap and explain the situation.
